Phil Wood closed the show by reminding everyone that Nats Extra would be "right here on MASN" at 7:30, despite the fact it's on MASN2 at 6:30 (7:10 first pitch tonight).

Co-host Mike Wallace wished his father a happy 87th birthday during the show. Holy crap...I thought Mike himself was about 120 years old, so he must not age well...

Maybe this would be too much work for Phil to do by himself, but what if they used MASN's video archive to show fans particular plays the Nats (and their opponents) made the previous week? I like Phil and Mike's insight, but right now it's basically a radio show with TV cameras pointed at the hosts. Why not make better use of the medium?

(This criticism also applies to Wall To Wall Baseball---which I do not watch---if they don't have any video clips either.)

Good idea ... I'd take a 50/50 split. A little chatter and then a few highlights from the previous week would work for me. They could blend the two together. Then again, that would add production costs for the greedy assed Angelos.

Unfortunately, I don't think this will happen, but if those arbitrators rule in the Nats favor and say that MASN needs to pay them $100M per year---which also means they need to pay the Orioles $100M a year, too---Angelos would be forced to sell the TV rights to some company willing to pay $200M + for both the Nats and O's. In that case, not only Nats fans but Orioles fans would benefit from finally being shown on a network---CSN or Fox Sports presumedly---that actually know how to produce a baseball television network.

Good luck on that. The Hooters chicks are more likely to give up the nappy dugout than that to happen.

...but why must the Nationals and the Orioles be on the same network in the first place?

We need our complete independence from Angelos...nothing less than full divestiture will do.

I like to listen to Mike Wallace on the show - but there is a guy with glasses (can't remember name) who is younger, and on the 4 man show with Phil, Tom, and the former oriole pitcher ( Dave),and he has offered some really great comments on the Nationals. Does anyone know who I am talking about - I can't remember his name, but he seems pretty sharp.

I like Phil, too. I like his comments and insights and his perspective on the Nats and DC history.

He is great on the radio.

But on TV... He is poorly dressed and has that haircut. Like I said, he is perfect for radio.

Mike Wallace is a refreshing break from the blow-dried pretty boys on TV sports. Phil always looks like he has upper respiratory gas issues. One of these days he's going to let go of a serious burb on live TV.

Ron Rizzi, the white-haired guest, joins PhilWood and Mike. He is a special assistant to Mike Rizzo, and was a longtime scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

MASN has reached an affiliate agreement with Cape Charles, Va., cable provider Bay Creek. Bay Creek is carrying MASN on Channel 60, MASN HD on Channel 660, MASN 2 on Channel 61 and MASN2 HD on Channel 661.
