It's Grey Cup time again!
After back to back championships by the Montreal Alouettes (coached by Marc Trestman who I recommended the Redskins hire), they were dispatched in the first round of the Eastern Division playoffs by Hamilton. Hamilton then fell to Winnepeg in the next round, advancing the Blue Bombers to the Grey Cup from the East.
In the West, Calgary fell to Edmonton in the divisional round of the playoffs and then the Eskimos lost to the B.C. Lions in the next round sending the Lions to the Cup, representing the West...and playing at home.
Aside from playing for the championship on their home field, British Columbia is an interesting story in that they started the season 0-5 then went on a tear ending the season with the best record in the West. Speaking of that, this was a year of extreme parity in the CFL. Going into the final week of the regular season, 5 of the 8 CFL teams (yes, there are only 8 teams and six of them make the playoffs) had 10-7 records (it's an 18-game season). Pete Rozelle would have loved that kind of parity.
Back over in the East, after going 4-14 in 2010, Winnipeg (who dubbed themselves Swaggerville) started hot, got cold then got hot enough again to have the top record in the East culminating with their trip to Grey Cup.
For those who want to throw a few bones on the game, the Lions are favored by 7. They're playing at home so that's not that surprising.
The game starts at 6-ish tonight (pre game intros and stuff pushes kickoff to about 6:30) and it can be seen on ESPN3.
