Jim Bowden didn't draft them? My mistake.

No one drafted Roger, he's from Curacao.

Amazingly, Hood, Meyers, Milone, Lannan, Zimmermann, Zimmerman, Peacock, Norris, Lombardozzi, Perez, Bernadina, Desmond, Espinosa and Kimball were all picked during Bowden's tenure.
And we really don't know how a lot of them are going to work out.  Other than the two Zimms and Espinosa, none of them have even put up a 2.0 WAR (a.k.a. average) season at the major league level, and of the rest only Lannan and Kimball have even made a single appearance in the majors.  That's not to say none of the rest will end up being successful, but it's not exactly a great track record either--especially when you consider that the list above is only the ones who haven't already flamed out.

In between innings they featured him with a bunch of stats and facts, it was great.

Freitas is the real deal. I think he's a better prospect than Norris.

How so?

Norris is a month older than Freitas and two levels ahead of him.

Two years ago, when Norris was in Hagerstown, which makes him two years younger than Freitas was, he put up a .926 OPS, Freitas, two years older, has a .899 OPS.

Correct. I guess we'll know whenever they decide that Freitas has kicked enough ass.

3-5, 2B, RBI, R last night. Freitas > Norris

As already mentioned, Norris had a better season at Hagerstown, at a younger age.

There really is no comparison. At the time of them being in Hagerstown, Norris is simply better, no question.

Maybe Freitas moves up and has more success than Norris, but at this point, he hasn't passed Norris.

By that logic:

Norris (DOB  02/14/1989 Currently 22): .208./.370/.449 at AA.
Ramos (DOB 08/10/1987, 21 at AA): .317/.341./.445 at AA, a year younger, and better defensively.

Ramos > Norris.

Ramos, currently has a .750 OPS in the majors as a 23-yr old rookie...and is better defensively.

Trading Norris might be our best option.

A bump.  I'm not going to post season stats because we are close to the end of the minor league season, but Freitas has put up some impressive numbers this year at Hagerstown.  Another high OBP catcher, what is pretty impressive is the 82 BB / 85 K (~16% of PA for each) , nearly 1:1 ratio.  This is an improvement year over year.   Power took a jump with age, but ISO is still a little low (.165) despite extra homers (13).  He is a month younger than Norris, and two levels lower, with less power (ISO).

bump.

This guy should have some fans here.  BA's #27 prospect in system.  Led the Sally league in BB, 2d in OBP at .409, with 13 HR.  .288 / .409 / .450 BA likes his pop (average pull HR power and doubles power to gaps) and suggest he could be a MLB offensive oriented part-timer C.

Good start at Potomac - .324 / .447 / .595, 2 HR, 8 RBI, 47 PAs. 9 BB, 4 K - is there another hitter in the system with that kind of eye?

Any further thoughts?

Love what he brings on offense.

Heard he's well, an offense first catcher, to put it nicely.

Freitas with his 3rd HR of the year.  He is quickly putting together a very solid season at Potomac with a .333/.431/.533 line.  The 10:7 BB:SO ratio is particularly impressive and in just the last two games he is 6/9.  He has been batting cleanup for the P-Nats for most of the season.

Is his defense that bad where he warrants no publicity or prospect status?

I've read less than favorable reviews about his catching skills and he only has a 28 CS% through only the lower levels of the milb.  I saw him one time last year and didn't notice anything negative that time, he looked adequate defensively.  Though, he did look pretty big for a catcher  (definitely bigger than his listed height/weight) and would probably fit better as a 1B down the line.

His numbers look good enough that he'd be a viable first baseman.

Is he mobile enough that he can play left field?

Freitas went 5/6 with 5 Singles, Run, RBI last night in Potomac's 13 inning win.

Batting a respectable .291/.391/.412 on the season. Power has dipped though with only 3 HRs in 148 ABs but in the Carolina League it's not too surprising.
