Good pitching matchup at least. Win the next two then get Zimm back.

Have you checked out the scorebooks Bob Carpenter made?  I have both the smaller "Fan" version that I use at games I attend and the big "Radio" version that I use at home.  The "Radio/TV" version is really awesome - it has room for bench and bullpen players, umpire locations and defensive positions.  Pretty bad ass.  Here's a link:

Do they have the Cardinals logo on them?  :)     Thanks Marquis.   I haven't kept score in so long.   Hell, I'll be lucky to get out of the first 1/3 of the game.   If Maya was pitching, we'd probably exit the game at the same time.

The big books have picture from a Cardinals game on the cover but that's understandable since it was created during his time with the birds.  I might actually score this game too if I'm still awake.

Livan should bat ahead of Ankiel and Bixler.

This lineup again points to how bad Rizzo is a building a roster.  This is precisely what happens when you have too many left handed batters.

And Bixler should be gone and Antonelli should be up.

Both these.

I do love that we're platooning the crap out of Nix... :?

Obviously you don't visit the MLB Nats board or you'd be schooled on where the Nasty Nats are heading:

You'd have to ask some of the jackasses in the thread below.  Some of the people that post over there (that have followed the Nats since moving to DC) make the Sunshine Squaders here look like Nouriel Roubini.

Nats have not lost the Diamondbacks away series since 2008...still a chance to get out of Phoenix with at least a 2-2 split, if not a series win, for the third straight season.

What exactly is the purpose of a left handed batter.  Yes, they're supposed to hit right handed batters, REALLY well but right handed batters hit right handed pitchers really well because that's most of what they've faced their entire baseball lives because most pitchers are right handed.

Right handed batters hit very well against left handed pitchers but, as a rule, left handed batter hit left handed pitchers really badly.  Is the difference between most right bat - right pitch and left bat - right pitch so great that you'd want so many left handed batters on your roster, ever?

I've never built a major league roster but I'd think you'd want, at most, two left handed batters plus one switch hitter, nothing like this team currently has.  You should be able build a lineup with all right handed batters to face both left and right handed pitchers.

Most of the best hitters of all time are lefties.  There's a *huge* advantage to being able to hit against opposite-handed pitchers and the number of lefties in baseball is grossly disproportionate to their percentage of the general population (around 10%) as a consequence.  The issue isn't how many lefties we have, it's that we have bad hitters.

Most of the best hitters of all time are lefties.  <rest of post, I saw.>

But what happens when you don't get good ones.  See the 2011 Washington Nationals.

...and I'd question your point.  There have been FAR MORE all-time great right handed batters than left handed batters because there are far more right handed batters.
