Does he really only top out at 90?  That would have him sitting in the high 80's most of the time.

He's only 19, my guess is he still has room to grow.

Ray got roughed up a bit for the first time last night.  He gave up 5 ER and 2 home runs.  He also let up 5 hits and 2 walks in 4.2 IP, while still managing to strike out 6.  Some sloppy D by the Suns last night kept him pitching innings longer than he should have been, but it will be interesting to see how he bounces back in his next start.

I'm glad to see Robbie get roughed up a bit.

Now maybe people will let him navigate his way through our system and develop at a normal pace.

Anyone else try to google this guy and have Billy Ray Cyrus come up? What's the deal with that.

9. Robbie Ray, LHP
DOB: 10/1/91
Height/Weight: 6-2/170
Bats/Throws: L/L
Drafted/Signed: 12th round, 2010, Brentwood HS (TN)
2011 Stats: 3.13 ERA (89-71-38-95) at Single-A (20 G)
Tools Profile: Solid but unspectacular across the board.

Year in Review: Big bonus baby from 2011 was held back in extended spring to limit his workload but struck out over a batter per inning.
The Good: Ray has average fastball velocity that plays up due to his inability to throw the pitch straight. He's honed his hybrid breaking ball into a usable pitch, and his changeup flashes plus and generated swings and misses in the Sally League. He has loose, easy arm action that allows him to maintain his stuff deep into games.
The Bad: Ray is not an impressive physical specimen, which could limit his upside. His command and control falter at time, but it's not a big concern as they should be addressed with more experience. He tends to work up in the zone, which could lead to some troubles at the upper levels.
Ephemera: 36 percent of the runs Ray allowed in 2011 came in the fourth inning; he had a composite 2.32 ERA in all other frames.
Perfect World Projection: Number-three starter.
Fantasy Impact: Not a monster but could help a bit in every category.
Path to the Big Leagues: Ray will move up one level to High-A Potomac in 2011.
ETA: 2014

Why are you reposting all of these? Tomterp posted them all a while ago.

I think there's value in having the specific player comments within each player's thread.

I guess some people couldn't figure it out... but I was just copying and pasting from your thread, into specific threads. I'm well aware you posted these reports earlier.

Hood, now Ray ETA 2014. Will that be The Year when the Nats have a strong team? (I'm tired of waiting.)

2014 seems to be the year we see a lot of guys (maybe). Goodwin, Meyer, Purke are also listed as 2014 ETAs by the BP blurbs

I don't feel very optimistic on Robbie Ray as a starter in the majors...

I think Hood's ETA is 2013, not 2014. Starts this year in AA, maybe a September call-up this season if he plays well, next year he really gets his chance. I believe he has to be put on the 40-man after this year.

Thanks Linty for the upkeep of these threads.  The idea was to have a place where you could go to find info about a prospect and track him, rather than to have stuff buried in a long thread about a more general topic.

LHP Robbie Ray is further along than Purke as they build toward pitching in the minors this season. Ray's up to a 90-pitch, 6-inning limit.

No official transaction yet, but:

The addition of Hague and Ray, along with the pending addition of Purke is really going to ramp up the talent level at Potomac.  Could you imagine if Rendon was healthy right now what that team would look like?

rendon would've been nearing a AA callup.
