Last pitch of the night was a 94 MPH heater that he blew by the hitter for his 14th K.

Just awesome.

For anyone that hasn't seen Peacock pitch... here's a 10 second video I took of him throwing 94. A bit out of focus.

Peacock's going crazy again. Damn, this dude is legit. Teams will be bangin down the Nats door trying to get him just like they tried to get Zimmermann.

his fastball has some zip on it this year, but his curveball is really turning into a plus, swing and miss type pitch.

Scouts were right about his changeup though, it is not a good pitch.

He throws it about 11-13 MPH slower than his fastball but it just floats to the plate on a tee for the hitter. To get to the top level, he'll have to improve it.

There's no depth to it, but it can be improved and I think his progress in other areas bodes well for chances of improving his changeup.

solid insight.

IIRC he even said at the beginning of this year, that was the pitch he was developing and really needed to work on.  but his fastball and curve are plus pitches.

I seem to remember Strasburg's changeup being his weakest pitch - a couple people drilled it out of the park because it was basically a 92 mph fastball with minimal movement.

Top prospect behind Harper?

Could be, but there's a long season left. Hood's stating his case, and Ray is doing very well so far. I expect Norris to pick things up as well. And of course, whoever we pick at 6 will be in the discussion as well.

If the change up is still a problem though, then the future in the bullpen is still a valid argument. No matter what his numbers are at AA, or even AAA, hes got to get that third pitch down for the big leagues or he's in the pen.

Sickels features Peacock in his minor league notes today:

Quote
**Washington Nationals pitching prospect Brad Peacock is having a breakthrough season, at least if his performance for Double-A Harrisburg is any indication. He's 6-1 in eight games, with a 2.05 ERA and a terrific 66/9 K/BB ratio in 48 innings, with 31 hits allowed. He's been especially devastating in his last two starts, with a 24/3 K/BB and six hits allowed in 13 innings of work. A 41st round pick in 2006 from Palm Beach Community College, Peacock hits the mid-90s and has an impressive knuckle-curveball, but struggled with his command in past seasons, resulting in a career 4.44 ERA entering '11.

However, he's throwing quality strikes much more readily this year, with big leaps forward in all performance metrics. He's just 23 and this looks like a legitimate breakthrough to me. I had him on my Sleeper Alert! list pre-season in the 2011 Baseball Prospect Book. He's awake.

Like I said... iron out the change up, and he's ready to go in the MLB, now.

Not even Lannan? Gorzelannan is a better pitcher than Lannan.

Needs to improve his change up... but he could kill it in the bullpen for the Nats, right now.

His fastball/knuckle curve combo is just sick, though.
