the funny thing is all three missed the playoffs last year- top receivers are very overrated

So did Rivers, Schaub and Freeman.

No one is calling them the best three at their position- Brady, Manning and Breese all made it

Talked to a Giants fan who legitimately thinks Eli Manning is a top 10 QB. Classic homerism, I guess, but annoyed me all the same.

Meh, I guess you could make the argument. Not in order:

Tier 1:

Brady
Manning
Rodgers
Brees
Rivers

Tier 2:

Vick
Schaub
Manning
Sanchez
Cutler
Bradford
Freeman
Ryan
Big Ben
Flacco
Cassel

So of those guys in tier 2, is Manning in the top 5? Quite possibly.

In manning's defense, his home games are in a wind tunnel, and for a sport that validates its quarterbacks based on superbowl rings - he does have one

Don't know why everybody freaks out about a super bowl ring. Yes, MOST great quarterbacks win at least one (exception: Dan Marino), and it's obviously important, but for God's sake, Trent Dilfer won a super bowl and Rex Grossman came way too close.

Manning would be on the fringe maybe 11.

Oh, and just so I don't let this slide: Mark Sanchez is a terrible quarterback. That is all.

Eli isn't top 10. but he's not bottom 10 either.

he's a competent QB that you can win with.

Freeman is pretty damn good.

I think he's heading into the elite level very soon.

My top 5 qbs:

1a. Peyton Manning
1b. Tom Brady
2. Drew Brees
3. Aaron Rodgers
4. Phillip Rivers
5. Big Ben

I must make it known that actually typing Big Ben in the top 5 was enough to make me want to vomit, but his production on the field as well as my objectivity demands it. I put P. Manning #1 due to the fact that, in my opinion, he's the most irreplaceable player in the NFL. In terms of skills, there's not a whole lot of difference between Manning, Brady and Brees, but Manning's absolute command of his offense as well as the ability he showed to keep the team in the game with a receiving corps made up of semi-pros and flag football players really was impressive. Not only that, but the guy's commercials and SNL appearance were/are hilarious.

because in the US no one seems to give a damn about the regular season in any sport- apparently a single elimination tournament means more than the course of a season. That's just the way it is though.

But he's not in the top 5. You listed 6 QB's because you couldn't bring yourself to decide on who is actually the top dog.   I have:

1. Peyton Manning
2. Tom Brady
3. Aaron Rodgers
4. Phillip Rivers
5. Drew Brees

If the list were extended I would have Roethlisberger next.

Well, I included Manning and Brady as 1a and 1b because I really don't see one being truly better than the other. If I was forced to choose, I'd taking Manning I guess mainly due his pre snap reads. Really though, I'm content with my list.

Pryor to the Raiders with a third rounder

but even better

Quote
A Raiders source told ESPN.com's John Clayton that the team is looking at Pryor more as receiver than a quarterback at the NFL level.

Merril Hoge was on ESPN talking about how small the Eagles are up front on defense. I didn't realize how small they were until I heard him talking about it. I gotta agree with him..teams should be able to pound them on the ground. I can't see them getting much pressure on opposing QB's either.

While they may be able to get beat up physically, they'll be able to apply pressure.

Trent Cole had 10 sacks last year, Jason Babin had 12.5 and Daryl Tapp and Juqua Parker are solid rotational pass rushers. Inside, Cullen Jenkins can apply pressure. On top of that, with the corners they have, it gives them the flexibility to be aggressive with everyone else, blitzing from different places frequently.

I think they'll have a solid pass rusher, but definitely the running game could be trouble. Their DLine isn't that big or great against the run, and their linebackers are undersized and built more for speed. A physical OL and any depth at the RB position will allow teams to beat them up on the ground.

A team that has a strong rushing attack and a reasonable passing attack could be hell on the Eagles. Especially a team with a qb that is very adept at play action like Peyton Manning. Seems to me that Steve DeBerg was the king of play passes, but I can't swear to that.

Steve DeBerg. There's a name from the past. I believe he was replaced in San Fran by Joe Montana, in Denver by John Elway, and in Tampa by Steve Young. All future hall of famers.
