Switching catchers every game sounds a lot like the failed experiment at second last year. I'm not liking this move by Riggles.

Pudge may actually be unable to catch two days in a row.

If that's the case make him the back-up and just give Ramos 80% of the starts.

guys ... remember ... riggleman just came out yesterday saying they are going to split the first ten games and after that ramos will be groomed to be the #1 backstop.  pudge was informed on friday and took it in stride and was very receptive.

For those going today: Yahoo! Weather has 'Windy with a mix of clouds and sun. High 59F. Winds WNW at 20 to 30 mph'. There may be a few early showers tonight but those shouldn't start till after the last out is recorded today.

Capital Weather Gang's NatCast has 'Decent game weather with some sun at least at the start - clouds try to increase as the game goes on - and temperatures rising through the 50s to maybe near 60. That's at least 10-15 degrees warmer than Opening Day, but with a bit of a breeze it's still kind of cool, especially if sitting in the shade.' - chance of rain 5%.

Here is the Ramos/Pudge article from Kilgore:

Quote
“I had no problem,” Rodriguez said. “I know that he is a great player. He’s the future of our ball club. I’m here to work with him. I don’t have no problem with that. I’m going to play a lot of games. Right now, I feel like I want to contribute to the ball club. The most important thing for me is to help the ball club. I just want to win. We have a great team. We have a nice group of guys. We’re ready to win ballgames, and that’s the most important thing.

“I’m a grown man. I’m a professional. We sat down and talked for a little while, talked for 10, 15 minutes. The conversation was great. [Riggleman] saw from me the person that I am. Basically, that’s the person that I am. He told me that, and we sit and we talk about things. I told him, ‘The only thing that I want is to have a better team every day.’ I’m a winner. I’ve been in the playoffs, I’ve been in the World Series already. I’ve been on good teams. And I learned from those experiences. That’s what I would love to bring here, especially the young guys. It will be a good situation.”

I've been pretty impressed with how he is handling the situation as well the proactive approach he has taken in mentoring the younger players.  You can see him getting involved during the games in explaining things to the guys after at-bats and in the dugout.  Unfortunately his skills have deteriorated so much that he has very little use as a player.

This game is at 6:30pm London time, so I'm gonna buy MLB Gameday Audio and listen to Charlie and Dave from first pitch to last. So glad baseball is back 8)

On the first series of the season?

Man, I am pumped. I missed yesterday's game because of family obligations. Sunday afternoon, me and my couch, coming off a win where we jumped out of the gates and did a suicide squeeze, J-Zimm vs. Hudson. Let's do this and take the series.

Hudson 10-2 with a 1.91 ERA vs the Nats in his career.

If you were to pick any pitcher in baseball you wouldn't want the Nats to face it's Hudson.

Yeah, but as Mark Zuckerman points out...

Hudson 10-2, 1.91 in career vs. #Nats, but check out newcomer #s against him: Werth (7-20, 6 RBI), Ankiel (3-6), Nix (6-14), Stairs (5-6).

And for those wanting Ramos in, Pudge is hitting .444 (16-36, 8 RBI) lifetime against Hudson.  I feel pretty optimistic about our chances.

Why not give Matt Stairs a start? He's 5 for 6 against Hudson... Okay, my real reason is that I want to see him play a full game. MATT STAIRS!

For fun, what will we do when we want to spot in Nix against a righty?  Can't stack LaRoche / Nix / Ankiel in a row because that sets things up too easy for a LH reliever.
