I'm hoping to see the SpaceX launch today if we finish dinner in time. Good view of the Vehicle Assembly Building from our nephew's neighborhood, so I expect we ought to be able to see the rocket if it goes off as scheduled.

€£¥+*^%!!!!! Launch aborted.

(CNN) -- Hold the obituary. Experts now think Comet ISON -- or at least part of it -- survived its close encounter with the sun.

Heads up:

Scheduled December 17th at approximately 10:00pm, Orbital's third Antares rocket and the first of eight cargo resupply service (CRS) missions to the ISS will launch from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport (MARS) at Wallops Island, VA. This being a night launch with the largest rocket ever launched from Wallops Island, it will be clearly visible in the night sky.     This bad boy is about 5 time larger than the little ones we've seen so far this year.

aren't all the antares the same?  Isn't this the same sort of rocket that launched a few months ago?

I think the others were Minotaurs.

*Disclaimer:    I'm not a rocket scientist.   I was fed this information by a NASA/vendor hack.

Thanks for posting this! I happened to be out last year at like 2am on the peak morning of the Geminid meteor shower and saw shooting stars all over the place, was totally awesome!

What?  You can't hop a ride above the clouds with someone in an F-16?   Are you a pilot?   If so, great night for some training.   :)

Nah, a bartender and a former bartender / nursing student.  Both used to work at CCSP.

Looking iffy with the issues at the ISS.    Anybody else having problems gettin' into NASA's sites?

NASA managers are postponing the upcoming Orbital Sciences commercial cargo resupply mission to the International Space Station to proceed with a series of spacewalks to replace a faulty pump module on the space station. NASA Television will air a news briefing at 3 p.m. EST on Wednesday, Dec. 18 to preview the spacewalks.

Antares update:
Quote
Weather permitting, the launch of Antares from Wallops Island, VA is scheduled to occur on January 8, 2014 with a launch window that extends from 1:32 - 1:37 pm EST. From a distance the Antares rocket will appear as a faint bright spot ascending in the sky if viewing conditions are optimal. More: http://bit.ly/198Bx33

It's currently colder in Canada than it is on Mars. Where is your god now?
