The playoff games are being played now. The teams that get knocked out because of inadequate hitting and slow base running are the ones most likely to see Soriano as the missing link to a World Series. Those are the teams who might look at what the Nationals offer Soriano and say, "He's worth more than that to us." Soriano's season-ending slump and apparent inability to hit more RBIs from other than leadoff could reduce his value. Would you pay $20 million for someone who could be hitting .125 for an extended time? Sori may have subconsciously slumped because he actually likes it here as much as he said, and knew it would scare suitors off.
Angelos is in pretty much the same position as the Marlins. Getting Soriano is not going to get the Orioles past the Red Sox and Yankees, and attendance will not be changed enough to justify the cost.
