just heard Tom Loverro on WJFK.  He disagrees with the firing of Baker and noted that Rizzo has continually been overruled about managers, and that the Nats don't want to pay for a quality manager.  He said that Rizzo wanted to extend Davey but the Lerners wouldn't agree to terms ($4 million a year for 3 years I believe).  Rizzo's contract is up at the end of 2018, so he's concerned that Rizzo will walk.

To be fair, they didn't fire Dusty.  They simply did not want to retain his services.

Rizzo and Davey were very close IIRC. The reason why Davey came out of retirement.

The Dusty thing, I believe that maybe Rizzo felt compelled to keep him since Rizzo kept stating that he wanted to give Dusty an extension after Dusty went to the media? And the Lerners were more in a wait and see approach?

Its been stated that the Lerners were not happy with Dusty's power play to the media at all
If Dusty went to the media with information not meant to be made public yet, then that would explain this move. That makes more sense than on field reasons.

Fortunately reporters don’t lurk around all of our jobs when we’re annoyed with our bosses.

I'm really afraid that 2018 is going to be an absolute disaster of a season and everyone will be gone(Harper, Rizzo etc.)and the team will return to the dark days.

Get used to it because it was going to happen anyway. If Rizzo pushed the Learners to keep Dusty, he'd be gone after next season's division series bounce. Harper has always been gone. Murphy will be gone. Zimmerman will go back to being injured. Scherzer will start to decline and Strasburg will be within a season of his second TJS.

I really don’t know. Are you spelling the Lerners name wrong on purpose? Am I missing something?

Naw, I thought it had an "a"

Honestly don't care. The window was always closed in 2018. After that, this becomes, at best, a mid 80s win team. The Lerners insistence of payroll limitations between 2013-2015 forced Rizzo to trade away prospects that would have been used to bolster the team. While they may not be 4+ WAR players, guys like Pivetta, Rivero, Lopez, and others impacted the team this season. While Rizzo is excellent, eventually, its' going to catch up to him and the rest of the divison will eventually have a good team in it.

Yet you argued trading Rivero didn't matter because he sucked while here.

he has seemingly been overruled a lot.   IIRC he didn't want Max and wanted Bud Black.  Didn't he also get overruled on some bullpen deals in the offseason?

Greg Holland was almost offered a deal but was nixed by cheap ted.

Sorry, but you don't know that. It is merely speculation from pundits.

I thought some of the articles have noted that they are willing to spend lots on the top guys but think the back end of the roster guys are interchangeable?

Takes a full team to win.  Let's be honest; the bullpen was a mess most of the year.  Some accounts said they wouldn't let Rizzo sign some guys.

It filled a need while here. The immediate need surpassed the project that was Rivero.

Another moronic piece by The Boz.
he has more access to team officials and others around the team than you and I.  Just reposted the link to show that some had reported the Lerners didn't want to spend on the pen.

They're sometimes referred to as the "Slow Learners".
