I want to give a raise to whoever is running the Nats operation in South America. I just assumed we would scuttle it after the Bowden fiasco. Difo, Severino, Robles, Bautista, and a handful of arms used in trades. Nats getting a lot past few years.
Johnny Dipulgia.  Brought in at the end of '09.  one of Rizzo's first moves.

Is the Fister/Ray trade the closest Rizzo has come to losing a trade?

That was a nice win by Mike Rizzo today, huh?

They'll blame the manager, but how many passes does this guy get for putting together regular season winners with no results in the playoffs?

I like the team Rizzo has built, but he's terrible at hiring managers. If this next one doesn't work out, he has to go when they do.

Davey Johnson
Matt Williams
Dusty Baker

All yielded the same results.

The last two were completely incompetent when it comes to in game strategy and were simply carried by talent. Johnson obviously won a WS, but that was 25 years before DC and 11 years after he had last managed.

I'd like to see someone hired who has won a playoff series in the last 10 years or someone who seems to understand how the modern game works. If Rizzo can't do that then keep as much of the scouting staff as possible and hire a GM who is better at parsing out who is a good manager.

For all you Rizzo dick riders out there - how you liking eating Rusty’s old ass now?  It’s time to admit Rizzo is an awful GM/VP when it comes to dealing with people. Riggleman might be a dipcrap but that was very telling how out of touch Rizzo is when it comes to dealing with people.

The whole Bud Black fiasco was on both Rizzo and the cheap ass owners but most here seemed to fully onboard with what’s turned out to be a complete and total “who didn’t see this happening” failure.

Those people all currently have jobs.

Two good names have been mentioned by others in Don Wakamatsu and Dave Martinez. I'll add Alex Cora and Sandy Alomar Jr to the list that I'd be happy with giving a shot.

I can't recall any of those guys winning any post-season series.  Am I missing something?

Some reporters on Twitter saying Rizzo wanted Baker back.

If true and he was overruled on this one, that front office will be a toxic place

he has seemingly been overruled a lot.   IIRC he didn't want Max and wanted Bud Black.  Didn't he also get overruled on some bullpen deals in the offseason?

He'll handle it. I just hope he's over it before his contract expires.

I don't remember hearing that about Max.  I remember hearing that about Rafael Soriano though.

I wonder if Rizzo is accepting of a little Lerner meddling and knows how to manage them.  He picks his battles and lets them win some.  That's the picture I've painted in my head anyway.  Who knows!

Weeeeeeee another spectacular offseason coming up in fake contending land!

Poor Dusty. He has his flaws, but the guy who keeps building these teams survives. Losing to that trash cubs team was just so laughable.

And then you have the Lerners, who might finally be getting exposed.

just heard Tom Loverro on WJFK.  He disagrees with the firing of Baker and noted that Rizzo has continually been overruled about managers, and that the Nats don't want to pay for a quality manager.  He said that Rizzo wanted to extend Davey but the Lerners wouldn't agree to terms ($4 million a year for 3 years I believe).  Rizzo's contract is up at the end of 2018, so he's concerned that Rizzo will walk.

He also wanted to trade turner for a reliever last year, so I’m fine with treating him like local version of the Onion

Rizzo and Davey were very close IIRC. The reason why Davey came out of retirement.

The Dusty thing, I believe that maybe Rizzo felt compelled to keep him since Rizzo kept stating that he wanted to give Dusty an extension after Dusty went to the media? And the Lerners were more in a wait and see approach?

Its been stated that the Lerners were not happy with Dusty's power play to the media at all
