Nats "Unlikely" To Exercise Kennedy's Option

kennedy is a stand up dude.  it's a damn shame he isn't a better utility player because he would be a great fit for us.

If they expect Espinosa to stick around at this level then it makes sense.

yup.  i'm sure free agents that we'll be talking to will look @ this roster and the decision to sign will depend on a lot whether we keep dunn or not.  if espinosa is their guy then we are looking @ these positions penciled in:

C Ramos/Pudge
1B Dunn
2B Espinosa
SS Desmond
3B Zimmerman
LF Willingham
CF ???
RF ???

CF/RF will be interesting to watch.  Bernadina and Morse could battle out for RF if we get Crawford.  Or Bernadina/Morgan (if he's still here, which I now doubt) could battle for CF if we land Werth.

I think they're counting on Bernadina to stick around as well. Kennedy could be a valuable asset because he can play various positions but they probably figure to find cheaper options as a utility infielder.

Our bench is so trash.  Who do you bring in here?  They're all bums.

i just don't know what to think of bernadina.  some of the FO seems pretty high on him, I just think he has some holes in his swing that he hasn't fixed.  he has been very streaky this year.

what scares me is if we don't get crawford, we really don't have a leadoff man.

Didn't someone here think Kennedy was going to be just as good as Hudson this year?

Quick check of fangraphs shows WAR 3.3 for Hudson this season, 0.9 for Kennedy :couch:

Not that I think WAR is the be-all end-all but it seems to be the popular one-stop shop around here and I don't feel like arguing with people right now :?

Has Espinosa ever been a leadoff guy?

I think most people thought he could produce 90% of Hudson at a cheaper cost. Hudson isn't special either. He isn't a great defensive player anymore.

That means it really was a Lerner.

Hudson is a head case whereas they all like Kennedy. Also Kennedy was benched nearly all the time for Guzman.

Why is Wil Nieves still on the roster? The guy can't throw a runner out if his life depended on it. Another reason why we have a crap franchise.

The Rangers owner defaulted on hundreds of millions of dollars in loans and used the team to help him pull it off. Talk about a cheap sleazy owner.
