(WOODBRIDGE, VA) Tyler Moore has been named the Carolina League's Most Valuable Player in 2010. The first baseman leads the League in home runs and RBIs, and his 29 homers have set a new Potomac franchise record.

Moore won four Player of the Week awards over a span of six weeks in the season's second half, a period during which he went on an offensive barrage for the ages. In the 36 games from July 15 to August 22, Moore mashed 18 home runs and drove in 54. He also knocked 16 doubles and scored 39 runs. Over that stretch, Moore slugged at a .929 clip and posted an eye-popping 1.400 OPS.

Moore is just the second player in Potomac history to be named the League MVP. Troy Farnsworth was honored in 2000; that season, Farnsworth set a club record with 113 RBIs. With six games remaining in the regular season, Moore sits just six shy of that all-time mark.

The Brandon, Mississippi native also leads the circuit in doubles (43), extra-base hits (75), total bases (264) and HR/AB ratio (he hit a homer in every 16.83 at-bats). He is first among active players in slugging percentage at .541, and trails only Eric Hosmer who slugged at .545.

Moore has spearheaded a resurgent Potomac offense that sits atop the Carolina League's Northern Division by a game and a half with six left to play.

The other Carolina League Award winnners are Lynchburg's Jordan Hotchkiss (Pitcher of the Year) and Joe McEwing of Winston Salem, who won his second consecutive Manager of the Year award.

The Nationals play their final two road games of the regular season in Salem tonight and Friday before returning home for their last homestand of 2010 over Labor Day Weekend. A Fireworks Extravaganza after Saturday's doubleheader kicks off an action-packed weekend. Call 703-590-2311 to reserve your tickets and catch the P-Nats on their march to the postseason.

Likely neither, but the 2nd half from Moore should get him on the team's radar.

Congrats, with the way he has played the last month+ he deserves it.  He also broke the Potomac Nationals record for home runs in a season and I believe he is on the verge of breaking the RBI record.

Probably start the year in Harrisburg next year, and maybe a canidite for a September call up (next year)?

You can add Randolph Oduber to the list of MVP's. He was named the GCL MVP, just like Eury Perez was last year.

Any Tyler Moore love out there?

In 220 AA ABs: 16 Doubles, 3 Triples, 12 HRs, 31 RBIs, 7 BBs, 53 Ks

.291/.320/.555 (.875 OPS)

His OBP and SLG are identical to what they were last year in A+ ball. His BA is 20 points higher.

This is what you want from your typical mashing first base prospect. Loads of power, high BA. Would obviously like to see him walk more but he is never going to be that type of high OBP guy. Still he's got potential to be a starter for this team at 1B in a few years.

Makes the Eastern League All Star Team:[color]
Quote
The Eastern League announced the 2011 Eastern League All-Stars Wednesday afternoon. The Harrisburg Senators have five representatives heading to New Hampshire on July 13 for the Eastern League All-Star Game. Pitchers Brad Peacock and Erik Arnesen were selected along with first baseman Tyler Moore, and outfielders Bill Rhinehart and Archie Gilbert.
...
Tyler Moore leads the team with 14 homeruns, 20 doubles, and 44 RBIs. He is tied for the team-lead in runs (40), second in hits (75), and tied for second in triples (4). In mid-April, Moore had a 10-game hitting streak raising his average 163 points. He earned EL Player of the Week at the end of May. Entering the season, Baseball America ranked him as the 24th best prospect in the Nats system. The 24-year old was a 16th round selection in the 2008 draft by the Washington Nationals.
Power still there, but after a .307 /.352 /.604 May, fell to a .212/ .257 / .442 June.  Some symmetry in his monthly OPS - .698 in April, .699 in June, surrounding  .956 in May.

July and August continue the hot / cold pattern.

July - .330 / .379 / .670 with 10 HR and 31 Ks over 112 ABs.
August - .237 / .244 / .342 with 1 HR and 9 Ks over 38 ABs.  Looks like he's playing every day.

Why isn't this kid talked about more for a September call up. If he's not ready, anyone want to venture on when he might be? Is he being overlooked because he's come out of nowwhere, as opposed to Marerro, a former first rounder?

He's overlooked because of his BB to K ratio and his defense. The power is there. He also lacks consistency

Needs more work, apparently. Or he is destined to be a DH in that other league.
