Moore reminds me of Mike Hessman with a bit more power.

I saw Moore last Saturday. He's not a great fielder, although Pahuta and McConnell (3B and SS) are far worse. Not terrible fielder. Good-looking hitter who could not handle a guy throwing 91mph fastball and 80mph off-speed.

Of the Harrisburg players, Moore looks most likely to improve and be advanced to AAA. Norris didn't play. Ivany, the other catcher can't hit and can't throw. Komatsu, the CF they got for Hairston, doesn't hit much, doesn't cover much ground, and is not especially fast.

Needs more work, apparently. Or he is destined to be a DH in that other league.
He will not have the career of Mike Restovich or Brad Eldred. barely a .300 OBP in AA and a 5:1 K:BB.  He will never see DC except a as tourist, and if he ever plays a game for the Nats, woe is us.

Actually, he's gonna become a congressman after his baseball career, so he'll be in DC quite frequently :mg:

I thought that was for ex-QBs or pitchers who had thrown a perfect game?

Are you talking about Heath Shuler? Not 100% sure which pitcher you're talking about. And there's an NBA player that did it as well...

Bill Bradley (looked it up)

Jim Bunning, though senile, was once a great pitcher. Threw a perfect game for the Tigers. HoF. See http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/bunniji01.shtml

He could be on his way to another league MVP award for the second year in a row, with what I am interpreting as no future in the bigs.  Is there anything odd about this picture?  He's a a tremendous DH candidate.  I would say this off-season would be a perfect time to trade with an AL team for a younger MLB relief pitcher (we can always use those).

Tyler Moore to be tried in the outfield at the Instructional League, according to Byron Kerr.

He was an outfielder originally if I recall. Guess they could stick him in LF and try it out but he seemed to be more of a 1B/DH type to me.

Quote
11. Tyler Moore, 1B
DOB: 1/30/87
Height/Weight: 6-2/185
Bats/Throws: R/R
Drafted/Signed: 16th round, 2008, Mississippi State University
2011 Stats: .270/.314/.532 at Double-A (137 G)
Tools Profile: Power, and that's about it.

Year in Review: Last year's breakout performer proved himself at the upper levels by leading the Eastern League in home runs, extra base hits, and total bases.
The Good: Moore has plus-plus power and is capable of hitting balls out of any part of any park. He's a surprisingly solid defender with soft hands at first base, doing an excellent job picking balls out of the dirt. He gets lauded for his makeup and effort level.
The Bad: While Moore's platoon splits are not concerning, his numbers do look better due to his ability to crush left-handers. He's far too aggressive at the plate and does not adjust when behind in the count. He's a non-athlete who does not run very well.
Ephemera: Moore made five errors in the first 18 games of the 2011 season, followed by just three in his final 119.
Perfect World Projection: Second-division starter.
Fantasy Impact: Home runs will be the only category he provides value in, but he could hit 30-plus.
Path to the Big Leagues: Moore's path to Washington is a bit muddled, and it's hard to figure out how the Nationals will work things with both he and former first-round pick Chris Marrero (who is equally limited athletically) set for Triple-A.
ETA: 2013

That's a level that very very few prospects ever attain.

Adam Dunn has hit a lot of HRs in the majors. That a long way, an astronomically long way, from a kid who leads a AA league in HR.

Puff piece on potential move to the OF for Moore.

Having seen him play, I'm quite positive he'll never make it in the OF, because dude is SLOW.

Agreed, though you see why they'd try it.  If Morse moved to first, we'd have a huge offensive black hole in LF.
