What?  He's a freaking awful player at this point.  Still a solid defensive catcher but he's a complete joke batting.  He shouldn't make anything more than the minimum at this point.

I'd rather have him in the batter's box than the plethora of crappy catchers we've had in the past (Estrada, Lo Duca, Schneider...).

Sadly, over the past 5 years Schneider has put up a better OBP than Pudge .324 to .306

Nieves

Now is not the right time to pick on Nieves, wait until his next 0-4 with 2 DPs.

Ramos still strikes out a ton and doesn't walk.

He could easily be a better version of Henry Blanco. Not that, that's a bad thing... but I wouldn't get my hopes up that he's going to be some offensive monster.

Ramos went 2-5 last night. This is going to be the steal trade of the year. A good to great defensive catching prospect, who has apparently learned to hit like nobodies business once he got out of the Twins farm system? How many multi hit games does he have in AAA now? Hell, it might be fewer if we ask how many games has he not had multiple hits in Syracuse. What a trade this one was. Oh, and Capps blew the save for the Twins tonight although they end up winning. Looks better and better every day.

Pretty sure Ramos got the attitude adjustment/ego boost he needed from the trade.

I wonder if they will give Ramos the call next week when they need a replacement for Nieves or if they would rather just call up Maldonado in order to allow Ramos to continue to get at-bats at Syracuse (i.e Pudge will get all the starts while Nieves is out).  I'd prefer if Wilson was just called up now and we were done with Nieves, but I am pretty sure they are not going to do that.  Just trying to figure out what *their* thinking will be.

What's wrong with Wil?

EDIT: Wife is about to give birth

I bet they call up Maldonado if the family leave doesn't take Wil into September, and they call up Ramos if the baby holds off long enough to bring Wil back when rosters expand.

Jim Bunning just called Wil a wussy. Said in his day the stork brought the babies so there was no need to stay home with the ball & chain.

Jim Bunning sprung fully grown from his father's head. That's how it worked in ancient Greece.

I think the family leave (I hate calling it "bereavement" since that is not its exclusive purpose) is limited to 7 days.  Since her due date is 8/22 and they will induce labor on 8/23 if she is later than that, Wil's leave would not take him out to 9/1, so the Nats cannot use family leave to manipulate the 25 man roster until the roster expansion.  That suggests maybe just Maldonado rather than Ramos.
