Quote
When the Nationals decided on Ross Detwiler to pitch today's game in place of Luis Atilano, they originally planned to have him throw no more than four or five innings, about 60 pitches. After consulting with Detwiler yesterday, they could let him pitch longer despite him starting on three days rest following a seven-inning outing in Class AA Harrisburg.

"We'll have a little leeway on it," Manager Jim Riggleman said. "When I mentioned to him yesterday that, 'I know you're pitching on three days rest and that's not the norm,' he was kind of laughing. 'Don't give any concerns about that. I'm fine.' As we were initially thinking four, five innings, 60 pitches or so, we'll kind of see how he's doing, how he's feeling. If he's deeper in the game, the way our bullpen is going, we'll take advantage of the opportunity for him to continue to pitch for us. Milwaukee is going to have something to say about that, too."

brilliant move by Riggs/Rizzo to call up Det on 3 days rest and throw him into the fire. What a joke.

It's funny that Pudge is never blamed for the pitches that are called.

As if the pitcher is calling the game.

Don't want to step on any toes... oh no.

Spinman, how in the world do you expect him to go 5 with a 60 pitch count limit?
4-5 but 4 innings on 60 pitches.

Three days rest isn't nearly the huge deal you seem to think it is.

Ok. Inning over. Only 2-0. Still manageable. Just have to hit.

Do we come back with Detwiler or do we throw in Batista and ask him to take one for the team? He can throw 80 or 90 pitches probably.

blame for that first inning:

dunn not getting the run in ... willie harris for botching a routine play ... detwiler for not throwing enough strikes ... pudge for continuing to call for offspeed pitches.

So 80-90 pitches is what, an inning and half?

Detwiler is going to get a long look. Someone needs to take the ball every 5 days.

Three days rest isn't nearly the huge deal you seem to think it is.

SF has never played ball so he has to rely on platitudes.

Nice 1-2-3 inning by Detwiler.

I'm ignoring Willie as no manager on planet earth would actually play him at 3B for any non-injury reason.
