Bright Spots on the Nats
« Topic Start: June 19, 2010, 09:20:48 PM »
After each game, how about a look at who is doing things the right way - not necessarily about numbers.

1) JD Martin. Nothing shakes that guy. I didn't watch his last start, but the near-complete game loss should have stood out. He does what he wants and sees what comes up, and his control looked great from the other side of the stadium. Loved the reaction he got after those K's, especially the backwards ones.

2) Tyler Walker - He has a K/BB of nearly 6. 6! He's getting it done.

3) Jim Riggleman - Stands up for his guys. Gets his word in.

4) Nyjer - Has Tony Plush been DFA'd? I hope so. He had a nice little game. Good defense, good baserunning.

I've only got 4 today. But it's a start!

Bright spot = Nats only play once a day so it limits the number of losses.

Crowd was very supportive, tried hard to rally the team in the late innings.

You mentioned Walker's solid 9th.

Miguel Batista bailed out Burnett after leadoff walk in 8th.  He has 10 out of his last 11 outings without a run scored.

That was a very, very fun game. I might have to break my promise and go back. It helps that I was there with a good friend, but I had a ball.

Oh I feel like I should throw this in somewhere - Roger Bernadina has awesome walk-up music.

Today is pretty rough. I think Nyjer is still playing well, and tomorrow the Nats and Royals meet the first time ever, which is really cool.

... the team keeps messin' around there's the possibility it could go back to 20K real quick on non-SS days.    This is a great opportunity for the franchise to up its fan base.   Gotta wins some ballgames.

No kidding.  Just as fan interest is at a recent high, they start tanking.

There are bright spots all over the team and the organization. We have lost 6 in a row, its devestating and we're only 8 below .500. In the last couple of years, 6 in a row was no big deal and it put us to 39 below or something. Although it is a loser way to look at it, having 31 wins at this point for a team that had 26 at the break last year is a very nice bright spot.
Also, it does worry me that these 35K non-Stras crowds won't last if we keep losing. People will get scared off and only come to Stras. Great crowd today but how long can it last playing this poorly?

Except that I can't find a tshirt with that script on it to save my life.

Also on that note, over on the uniwatchblog, this was posted as what a change to the Nats home jerseys could look like.

Not a huge fan of the "N" but that could be tweaked a bit and look awesome.

Honestly I'd be happy if they just made the red alternates the permanent home uni.

they do look sharp, but I like having the traditional whites as the main home uni.  I'd like to see them use the red alternates on the road or come up with a comperable blue one.

The blue jerseys for this season are great. I like the tradition of starter's choice of the 3.
