Anyone else see Mike Daisy's "The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs" at Woolly Mammoth Theatre?  His description of the working conditions in Foxcon's (manufacturer of MacBooks, iPads, and iPhones) factories in Shenzhen is pretty harrowing.  Of course it's not just Apple, all of our crap is made in Asian sweatshops.

True, but Apple profits from it a lot more than the rest :couch:

Yeah, that was his central thesis.  But the same could be said of Nike, Gap, yada yadda, any other market leaders who can charge premium over Target brand knockoffs.

This is why I'm still rockin' my 1996 Packard Bell and wearing MacGregors.

486 DX120?  I had one of those.  It probably got rendered down by a bunch of little Chinese kids in a recycling plant in Shenzhen.

Huh?  I don't think there are really "knockoff" brand computers.  The market leaders in non-Apple PCs like Dell, HP, Acer, and Asus are all pretty well known.  And the stuff inside them is all the same, including Apple.  I guess if you meant to say that non-Apple PCs are all trying to be like Apple, but I would have to strongly disagree on that - with a few notable exceptions like the HP Envy.  Or if they are trying, they're not doing a very good job of it

A girl asked me to fix the sound on her Packard Bell freshman year of college - I had to tell her she was SOL because there were no expansion slots and the motherboard had an integrated sound card.

Now that I think about it, my Packard Bell was a pentium as well...a Sudanese guy with tribal scars on his face sold it to me at the Circuit City at Seven Corners.  The 486 I had before that was some chittychittybangbang mofo from a small shop in Annapolis.

What's wrong with an integrated sound card?  I don't have a discrete one in my pc.  Of course I also only have a $40 2.1 speaker system, and not some crazy set up.

Nothing assuming the card never goes bad.

Is there any way to make album covers for CDs that have been added to an iPod? I don't really like this:

Grey music note isn't cool.

Add album art to iTunes on your computer.  It should then sync to your iDevice.

Didn't work. The album covers I'm looking for are from CDs not available from iTunes. I assume that I'm screwed?

I don't mean the "Get Album Artwork" feature.  Do you have a Mac or a PC?

If it's just a few songs, find the cover online, save it to your PC, select all songs of the same album, Control+i or right click and click Get Info, drag the art to the box that says Album Art.

There are some tools out there, but they all cost money after a free trial of something like 50 songs.  I'm not sure how well MusicBrainz Picard works anymore, but there's that and I know it had a plugin for artwork and it's free.

I can get pretty creative with out-of-print stuff. Sometimes for my vinyl I use an image of the LP.
