iThread (AKA Apple Thread)
« Topic Start: June 11, 2010, 04:33:34 PM »
Because, dangit, if JMad has his Google and Yahoo threads and PA gets his Microsoft thread, then I can have my Apple Thread!

So first on the agenda - iOS 4.  I installed the developer GM release onto my 3GS last night.  I have to say... Meh...  Unified inbox is cool, I guess, if you have multiple main email accounts.  I don't really.

Everyone whined about wanting multi tasking.  I don't know that I like it.  Now I seem to be constantly worried about going into the task switcher and closing things that I don't want to still run, worried about battery life.  I haven't had a full day of use yet, but we'll see how the battery does without intervention in the task switcher over the course of the day.

I do have to say that given AT&T's offer for me to upgrade at the new customer price to an iPhone 4 only 1 year into my contract on the 3GS, I will probably be ordering one.  Retina display + bigger battery + Apple A4 processor in addition to a design that I like much more than the 3G / 3GS design makes it a pretty easy sell at $199.

According to Jobs, you don't need to worry about closing the stuff. Just let it be, it'll handle itself.

I thought the Kindle was like $450?

I kinda want an iPad.  All I really do with the MacBook Pro as far as the mobility aspect goes is internet and email.  A more powerful desktop + an iPad would have been a better set up for me, but I bought the MacBook Pro last June before that was an option.  I'm really thinking about getting the iPad, ebaying the MBP and building a i7 gaming rig

Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx: Support out of the box

Lucid natively supports both iPhone and iPod Touch 1G, 2G, 3G and 3GS models (iPad should also work) running up to firmware 3.1.3 without the need to jailbreak. This is due to GNOME 2.30 libimobiledevice support. For a video demo see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGf4i_kxqRU&feature=player_embedded#!.

If you have a password set up on your device, unlock it first before connecting the USB cable, otherwise Ubuntu will not recognise it.

I bought mine for $259 and that includes unlimited worldwide 3G.

The bigass DX is almost $500 and I really want one. It's made for textbooks and technical books, and it has better PDF support.

Movies or  music purchased before DRM was removed or recent mp3s? Can you create mp3 versions of Fairplay music, or do you have to burn them to cd and then rip them again?

Does anyone know a way to rig airtunes to work with Safari? I have my speakers attached to an old airport router in my living room and enjoy being able to stream itunes to them, but would like to be able to use Pandora too

Makes me annoyed that I bothered building XMMS from scratch the other day to accomplish this :bang:

Honestly, I just googled for it.  Never had it before, never used it.  But Rogue Amoeba makes pretty good software.

Love my iPad. You can multitask - as long as one of the programs is iTunes and the other program doesn't have audio. So, that's a bit of a bummer - you can get a Pandora app, but then you cannot open Safari and browse while you listen.

There's no iOS 4 for iPad yet?

--Just checked, it's not out yet.  Coming in the fall supposedly.  That's a bummer.  My iPhone can multitask, but the iPad cannot?  WTH, Apple?

Well, Apple is having a conference about iPhone 4 issues today.  Coincidentally, I got mine today.  If I squeeze the hell out of it, I can slowly drop from 5 to 4 to 3 bars, but no further.  And when I hold it how I normally do, it doesn't drop at all.  So I guess I just hold it the "right" way or got a "good" model.

Apple is giving free bumpers to every iPhone 4 customer.  And a refund to every one who bought one before today.  I think that's a definite good thing to do.  ASSCLOWN, get your refund

Oh, nice.  You can have a choice of a case, not just a bumper.  That's nice to know.

Steve Jobs is an absolute joke. I love how he put the blame on every smartphone and not just his. Got news for him, this is the first phone I've seen that had a wide spread problem. Both he and his company are a joke. Free bumper/cases? w/e, I shouldn't need an accessory to make my phone work correctly. I've never once had a signal problem because I was holding a phone wrong until this phone. Again, it's a joke.

I wonder if they'll change the specs to the phone + case and drop their 'thinness claims'? I'm surprised this didn't come up in testing.

Then again, they're offering a free refund- if you don't like the phone return it.

I like the phone, it's just this minor annoyance. Though, I have a cast on my left arm atm, so I guess it's as good as a bumper since i won't use my left hand to hold it for 8 weeks.

Oh and those numbers he showed? I haven't called to complain because they knew about the problem. What would calling and complaining do? I haven't returned my phone because I wanted to see what type of fix if any they would release. I know a lot of people have the same line of thinking, so those numbers are BS.
