What's the chances we are able to sign Cole? What kind of money would he be able to command in order to get him to go pro as opposed to college?

What will you do with your spare time?     8)

haha c'mon minty you know i've given them credit when i believe it was due (strasburg, dunn, zimmerman, marquis, pudge, etc in the last year and a half) ... they seem to be moving in the right direction.  it's about time, but with that said i am softening my LAC stubborness for sure.

Isn't that the same spot they got Morris last year?

They got him with the 1st pick of the 4th round (112th overall). Cole is the first pick of the 4th round 116th overall

If A.J. Cole and Harper both sign, this draft is an epic win.

I know.  That's why I added your patented 8) emoticon.

;)

Besides, I need you now.  We're unified on the Potomac Cannons front.

I'm having a hard time finding any draft results after yesterday's round, it's as if nobody's updating their listings, something I find hard to believe.  Can somebody provide a poor brother a link?      :(

AJ Morris is closer to the bigs but is more of a back end type guy (no slight on him, i am pretty high on him).  AJ Cole has the potential to be a #2 starter and to think we could have three power pitchers at the top of the rotation (Strasburg, Col, Zimmermann) is just pure awesome.

Another thought, if the money is close do you think a guy like Cole would be more ready to sign with the Nats with the recent drafting and call up St. Strasburg and the drafting and eventual signing of Harper? Could these kinds of moves influence the kid enough to sign rather than go to college and re-enter later?

This draft is leaving a bad taste in my mouth so far. We had a chance this draft to spend big money all around and really stockpile huge talent. So far we have been going after signability guys other than Harper. We have a need for stud position prospects and instead of taking a big time OFer, we take a guy whose ceiling is a #4/#5 starter.

Sigh.

Solis wasn't a signability pick. Not sure why people keep saying that.

I definitely think they are appealing, surely not a negative. We are in a much better position to lure him away from college than we were say 2 years ago. I'd much rather pay for an up and comer then the blOws or pirates. Plus he will still get paid but won't have all that 1st pick pressure riding on him.

I'd say it would have to enter the thought process.  Nationals are a team on the rise and will have a great rotation anyone would want to be a part of.  But he's still going to want first round money and will sit out if he doesn't get it.  This is really going to be a test of our FO and the Lerner's pocketbook.  I'm praying they get this crap done though.  This would be an epic draft!

who the hell is AJ Cole?

Apparently a big time overdraft due to expectation he'll be expensive.  BP's 1st round projection had him going 23rd to the Marlins.

It would be great to get another middle-lower first round talent in addition to Harper.

yeah.  the nats are a team on the rise.  gone are the days of being the montreal/san juan/washington natinals with 100 losses, clubhouse cancers and the mentality of "how are we going to lose today".  sure we've been in a bit of slump in recent weeks (errors, players playing out of position, untimely hits, etc), but as a whole our organization is getting positive reception from media, fans and other clubs.

maybe crow didn't sign b/c he was turned off by all of our on AND off the field issues (or he's a prick?).  but we're on the rise and if you are a young prospect/draft pick in the nats organization you have to be liking the direction of the club.

I don't think it actually plays as big a factor as we'd like to think it does.  It's all about the dollars.  If the kid thinks he's who he was built up to be, there's more money down the road if he can go and prove to be the pitcher he thinks he is.  So, depending on who his agent/advisor is, unless they pay him mid first round money, I think it could be very difficult to get him signed.

MLB.com scouting report said Cole is pretty much the second best High School Pitching prospect outside of Taillon. Great pick!

Har.

I meant either/or.

A polished College bat with a high floor/low ceiling would be a nice pickup right about now.
