ESPN & the Baltimore Sun are reporting that Dave Trembley will be fired before tomorrow's game against Boston.  Juan Samuel (3rd base coach) will be interim manager.

Too bad the manager has very little impact on team performance.  As much as Andy McPhail has been a good GM in years gone by, he's the one that fielded a team with Tejada at 3B, Garrett Atkins with a large MLB contract, so little depth they had to trade for Julio Lugo, and Kevin Millwood as the team ace.  Add in injuries to Roberts/Gonzalez/Pie and you've got a team that couldn't succeed no matter what.

Trembley always seemed to come off as an arrogant ass, I know the owner is a clown, but for all the talent this team has this kind of record is unacceptable.

where are those that thought the O's were going to be good this year and have a good future? :lmao:

Just as always, their "hot, young prospects" always fizzle out once they make it to the Majors.

How about their savior Matt Wieters? Impressive .240/.314/.337 line in 175 ABs this year.

Last year's biggest fluke Adam Jones has sunk back to where he should be: .249/.271/.387 in 217 ABs.

Golden child Brian Matusz sporting a 5.28 ERA and a 1.60 WHIP.

What talent?  Jones, Markakis, Wieters, Wigginton is about it and two of those are young and middling right now.  Reimhold went the way of the dodo, Pie is hurt, Roberts is hurt, Gonzalez is hurt.

The pitching is either below average veteran SPs like Millwood and Guthrie or youngsters taking their knocks like Matuz, Bergesen, Tillman and Hernandez.  Arrieta is coming, but that team wasn't going to win with 4-5 legit bats at best and no depth.  Tremblay's got nothing to do with it.

So, how much longer of a leash does McPhail have? All I've heard from Baltimore is how good this guy is but the team still sucks ass.

He'll likely get two more years to see if the kids he's brought in develop well enough.  He built the Twins and Cubs into winners so there is precedence.  With that said, the Garrett Atkins contract may be the worst in baseball.

Especially considering that Adam LaRoche got the exact same contract.

The Orioles front office is a dumpster fire.

I can't believe Tillman was quoted in the newspaper today using the excuse "I'm young" for the reason it took him 25 straight pitches before recording the first out of the O's 11-0 manhandling by the Red Sox.

Garrett Atkins holds the copyright to "I suck".

Shipping up to Balmer tonight for Guthrie - Lester, with my Lester shirt on.  Guthrie can occasionally give Boston trouble (the Mothers Day Massacre).

...and now to loss# 10.

Sacking the manager doesn't always produce immediate results (although at times last night I suppose it almost seemed it would - a quality start out of Guthrie but with no run support)...Cal Ripken Sr was for the chop after a 0-6 start in 1988...who would have known at the time that the team would lose 15 more before finally notching their first win?

even at this stage of his life, this team might be better with Ripken at SS then it is now.
