Let's see Aaron Thompson!
No way he could really be worse than Marquis or Olsen.

I'd rather not rush Thompson.  He's too similar to Lannan anyway.

Martin would be nice to have over some of these bums.

You have to love their never say die attitude. This is a sign of a competitive team.

Thompson has a better fastball and a better change-up than Lannan.  But Lannan obviously has great moxie and a pretty solid curve.

As far as Martin, again, I still think there are better options.

Agreed. Last year at this time, a game like tonight or Sunday, the team would've completely rolled over.

Yeah, they have some differences, but they're both lefties with similar pitch speeds and very similar deliveries IIRC.

I'm leery of rushing him because the Marlins did that (put him at AA at 20 yrs old) and he struggled mightily.

This team sees a ton of pitches, but the umpire didn't help him tonight either.

You naged about Olsen having an 88 mph fastball calling it BP speed, where does JD's fastball sit?

I don't.  But everyone bashed Mock, then we get to see Olsen, now bashing him.  What makes you think Martin is so much better?  His numbers weren't that great last year with the big league club.  And he's a pitch to contact guy - much like Stammen (but not as good of stuff) - who I just don't think is an ideal option right now.  (Not saying Olsen is a million times better or anything, either.)

This goes back to the same crap as Sunday. I blame the mop-up reliever every bit as much as the starter. Batista and Walker totally freaked us in these two games.

About the same but he has much better command than Olsen and he knows how to pitch to contact and get outs. He did it last year for us in the Majors/Minors and he's doing it again so far this year in Syracuse. He's not a stud but he can give us a 4.50 ERA and some decent innings. A lot more than you can say for Olsen.

Just about 2 MPH slower.

I hope it isn't due to that play he tried to make. He had a rough landing on that diving attempt.

I disagree in that I think Martin's fastball has really good bite to it.  When he keeps it down, I prefer it to the heater of virtually everyone on our staff.
