Maybe it's the water, I don't know. But I have yet to find a bagel here as good as in NY. Same with pizza.
I used to be super into Pizza Boli's - don't know if the quality has lasted all these years.
Any of you ever read Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain? I'm about 3/4ths of the way through, it's one of the best books I've ever read. It's a look into the sub-culture of professional kitchens, some of it is disturbing (don't eat fish on monday, don't order mussels, and don't ask for meat well-done), but mostly it's hysterical.
Anyone know where to get a decent vietnamese sandwich in DC? They are big in Houston, with hipsters in New York, and apparently are fast food in CA.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B%C3%A1nh_m%C3%ACWikipedia says Falls Church, but specifics would be good.http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/02/05/AR2008020500888.htmlSo I've narrowed it to the Eden Center, but that's still a ton of choices.
Anyone a fan of Crock Pots or "slow cookers" I believe is the generic term? Any favorite recipes? We got one last year to replace an ancient one, but it gets too hot and burns the food. Just got a new one the other day so we'll see how that one works. But what are some things to cook in it, other than the "beef stew" bag of stuff I got from the freezer aisle.
Yes, she made barbeque meatballs in that. They were glorious.
The only thing I've made in one before is either meatballs or "lil' smokies" sausages and you put in some grape jelly and a bottle of chili sauce. Usually for new years eve parties, super bowl, etc.
The missus recently made a Thai chili peanut pork loin in the crock pot that was outrageously good over jasmine rice.
