 PatsNats already plagiarizing.

I made that up as a joke at SF, and how he could be making up stuff. At least you fell for it, I was trying to make it professional :D

Ah, well you definitely succeeded.

Gomez is a complete bum.  I think the Brewers should've tried for something better in exchange for Hardy.

The Red Sox offered Michael Bowden, but the Brewers wanted Buchholz or Bard per the Boston Globe].

According to a baseball source, the Sox had been engaging with the Brewers in on-and-off discussions involving Hardy since the trading deadline, roughly two weeks before Milwaukee sent the struggling shortstop to the minor leagues. Talks continued up until recently, when the Brewers agreed to send Hardy to the Twins for outfielder Carlos Gomez.

According to the same source, Milwaukee wanted either starter Clay Buchholz or reliever Daniel Bard for Hardy. The Sox were not willing to offer either pitcher. Milwaukee was not interested in righthander Michael Bowden, whom the Sox would have been willing to part with, and the Sox did not have a center field prospect who could match Gomez’s skill set.

I'd much rather have Bowden than Hardy. Brewers are crazy to take Gomez over him.

I don't know.  Hardy would have been a terrific fit just for his glove for 2 years.  Bowden regressed a lot last year.  He may not be much more than a #4 or #5 pitcher.

As for Gomez v. Bowden, they must really want someone rangy between Hart and Braun.  Basically, they are conceding a spot in the batting order.  Curious if he bats 9th and the pitcher 8th, to take advantage of his speed.

In his most recent mailbag Loodsun speculates the Nats may be trying to persue Mike Gonzalez from the Braves.  Also said they won't be going after Dye and will be looking to upgrade the backup catcher.

I like Gonzalez, it would be nice to pair him with Soriano like the Braves.

The GM Meetings will take place today through Nov. 11 in Chicago.

Here, teams will discuss league business, like Instant Replay, and extend feelers to other clubs to learn of one another’s plans, as well as who might or might not be available for trade this off season.

…last season, for the first time that i can remember, a ton of rumors were born out of the GM Meetings… typically, it had been a pretty quiet event… last year, not so much…

The MLB Winter Meetings will be Dec. 7-10, in Indianapolis, during which the Rule 5 Draft will also take place.

Interesting.  Assuming he means the Mets, this could mean advantage Nats given the Wilpons' financial situation.

Then again, I'm more likely to believe Paul Heyman than Jon Heyman.  Al Davis's "professional liar" accusation of Chris Mortensen could be better applied to Heyman.

The simple possibility of the Mets being interested makes him look less appealing to me.

Too bad we shouldn't sign him, since he was outplayed by Belliard in September and October.

I think he had a power outage and isn't really necessary for this team. I don't see him hitting all that much better than Guzman.

You gotta be kidding.  Are you one of those people who ignores OBP?  His OBP has been consistently good for the past few years while Guzman's always sucks.  He's an ideal 2 hitter.  Guzman's an ideal bench-warmer/starting 2B at Syracuse.

It's my belief for next year. I'm not ignoring OBP. Guzman's only effective when hitting like .380, I agree with you. I just think Hudson is in for a major decline (I'm not stating this as fact or as a scientific prediction).  I want them to spend the Hudson money on DeRosa.

Well that's fair.  I don't feel like that's necessarily on the horizon but you could very well be right.  Hudson's injury prone - I just don't worry about that too much with position players unless they're battling something really serious.  I think Belliard just happened to do really well in LA and they went with the hot hand.

I'd much prefer DeRosa over Hudson too.  I also don't think he'd come here, but the FO should at least make the phone call and find out.

*edit - upon looking at stats a little deeper, they're really similar players.  DeRosa has a little better power numbers over the past couple of years, but is about 3 years older.  His power really took off starting last year.  not sure what that means.  ODog is sorta at the same place DeRosa was when that happened...

I guess I could go either way.  If Hudson is willing to sign here, I say go for it.

DeRosa plays virtually every position.
