let's put it to a vote ... who do you like better as a starter for the nats:

craig stammen or j.d. martin?
J.D. Martin.  For one, you won't have to worry about his health.  Second of all, he appears to be steadily improving, whereas Stammen would constantly appear to have turned a corner only to crap the bed out of nowhere.

Stammen. hope he comes back healthy and ready to win a spot in the Spring.

Martin > Livan and may be considered for the #5 spot.

I feel Stammen needs to find some consistency. Martin has some age on him and a lot more control of his pitches.

Elijah Dukes career numbers -

Sept./Oct:
.284/.465/.526

First Half of Season:
.232/.331/.413

Second Half of Season:
.278/.405/.493

wtf.....why can't he play in the first half of the season?

.277/.347/.473 to start this season (34 games). Then he got injured. Struggled when he came back. I think he'll be fine. Just needs to stay healthy.

 i don't understand. just because he doesn't throw hard doesn't mean he isn't at a risk for an injury. he's had TJ once and who's to say it won't happen again? i hope it doesn't.

We've already been over the TJ recovery thing with you, but I'll leave it at this: Martin last recovered from an injury a few years ago and will have a few full seasons under his belt.  Stammen will be fresh off an arm injury, one that sounds more similar to Shawn Hill's recurring problems, mind you.

of COURSE he'd like to be "back with the Nats". the Nats let him sit around at home on his fat ass and collect 5m per season for doing absolutely nothing.  who wouldn't want to come back and keep getting paid to sit at home?

freak Dmitri. what a POS scam artist. I have a special level of hatred for that fat bastard.

that's the thing about Martin. he is essentially a 2 pitch pitcher.

throws a (cut) fastball and curve ball which he rarely throws anymore.

really could use a change-up.

i'm more of a stammen fan than martin.  although in an ideal world, stammen would be a long relief guy for us.

Holy crap.  Every time one of our pitchers gives up a hit/walk to any opposing pitcher, they should be forced to run 50 laps around the stadium where they gave up said hit/walk.
