Great the Nationals are back to, "I've never seen someone picked off to end the game type plays"

He was trying to imitate Josh Willingham.

The obsession with Morgan's basestealing abilities has got to stop. Yes, he has speed, and he can be a threat. But his SB count is useless given the CS%. He gets picked off far too often and that needs to be worked on very seriously. He had no place to go there. No reason to be in that position.
thank you

The culprits in this loss.

1) Jim Riggleman
2) the bullpen
3) poor situational hitting (AGAIN!!!)

Nyjer Morgan gets a dishonorable mention just for that last play.

I just want to point out I stayed out of the game thread because I thought I might be bad luck, but they sucked all on their own tonight :(

That pickoff at the end of the game shows that Morgan isn't really thinking when he's on the basepaths.  And that's dangerous.

still some good here - 6 innings from the starter, who threw an efficient 79 pitches, outhit the Braves, and no errors

bullpen collapse not all that surprising seeing how overworked these guys are

Can someone tell me why Stammen was taken out after 79 pitches? I know he wanted offense, but the game was tied so we could stretch him for an extra inning or 2.

I thought that was obvious. He doesn't pay any attention to the pitcher, catcher, etc. He just goes. Gets by on pure speed. You'd think his instincts would be better on the basepaths since his defensive instincts are fantastic but it just is not the case.

Needs to be learn to be more selective and read the pitcher and pay attention to the game situation.

cuz we had two on and two outs, we were trying to scratch out another run or two.  and you know the nats love pulling their starters early and on a positive note.  usually i don't agree with that, but tonight, in that situation i'm okay.  nyjer hit the ball hard but it was right at the 1st baseman.  a base hit there probably scores two and we're up 4-2.

See my culprit #3. The situational hitting SUCKED tonight.

He hasn't been that bad.  Much better than I thought he would be actually.

his proven track record says he's had plenty of struggles, but so far he's been pretty damn good for us.  that's all i care about.

is he going to falter?  maybe.  but up until now he's been serviceable ... look @ his numbers.

he's given up 3 freaking bombs in 7 games.

he is not serviceable and never will be serviceable for this team.

absolutely no reason to keep bums like him and Kensing on the roster. give Novoa and Wilkie a shot.

yeah i guess that 3.00 ERA (9 ip/3 er) isn't good.  or the 6/1 K/BB ratio.  nobody is saying he's a mainstay or savior, but those numbers are good.  regardless of what he does the rest of the way.

3 solo shots is all he has given up in terms of runs.  Besides that, 6 other hits and 1 walk with a 1.11 WHIP so far.  That is serviceable for now.

but he is a terrible pitcher. just as bad as Colome. I can't believe you are defending his dumb ass. I'm embarrassed that he is on our roster and is pitching in a Nationals uniform. sinful.

Novoa rocking a 1.00 ERA in AAA (9 K and 3 BB in 9 IP).

Wilkie has a 2.35 ERA in AAA (7 K and 1 BB 7.2 IP).

what has he done for us?!?!  succeeded!  ya know what if he starts to suck then he'll suck.  but up until this point, he has done his job ... better than some of the others that were shipped out.  based on his track record it won't last, but still for now he has been serviceable and that's what i'm arguing.

if it were up to you, you'd have a under 25 team.  that'd be hilarious.
