Am a huge fan of the idea of an OF of harper and hood together.

Get another OF with last name that starts with h ... call em HHH :pimp: :az: 8)
What about Werth - Harper - Oduber?  Wil Nieves!

It doesn't matter.  We won't see him for 15 years.  We have guys in the minors that deserve promotions to the next level and some jobs in big leagues but its the way it goes.

Well, maybe in a couple years. He should go a full year in A ball, AA next year, AAA the next, etc. etc.

He's still a pretty raw guy, seeing as he's coming out of HS and he split time playing Football. I think he's showing himself to be quite the hitter, this year.

Hood hit 30 doubles and .285 last year in Hagerstown and is looking good so far this year. If he keeps raking they should move him up to AA in July or so.

People here are way to quick to try and rush players.

Hood may be the one guy you don't want to rush. He is coming along nicely. Why rush him and risk hurting his confidence if he isn't ready for the next level yet? He's still a raw hitter, and while he is improvement, you don't promote him at the first sign of improvement. Confidence is a big part of that improvement, so keeping him at Potomac for the entire year IMO is easily the best way to keep him moving forward as a prospect. If you rush him, and the hits aren't coming, he could start to press and start the free swinging again. Let him build his confidence here as a hitter, which in turn will help his confidence in his own pitch selection.

I don't have a problem with keeping him in Potomac all year, but ideally he'd continue to hit well over .300 (and with power) in Potomac and get a chance to experience AA for a little bit. I'd only be willing to promote him if he keeps hitting like has in the last few weeks.

I get the sentiment that if he's hitting .350 with extra base and HR power, that he should be promoted.

In general, I would agree with that idea. Someone like Harper, should be promoted IMO. While he's got things to work on, he can work on those things at a higher level while being challenged.

But with someone like Hood, who was drafted as a raw player, and although improving, still is pretty raw. Promoting them too early could hinder his progress. Personally, I am of the opinion that most players should spend a full season at the early stops. Once you reach AA, all bets are off. If you're raking at AA for two months, you should be in AAA, or even given a shot at the bigs if there is a spot. A lot of development goes on in those first couple years, and having success while developing those skills means a lot. For a guy who's biggest issue is plate discipline, I don't think promoting him after a few months of his first success in that role is the best decision. On the other hand, if the kid's got it, he's got it. You dont know that without challenging him. A Harper you can challenge early. A raw kid like Hood, I think you show more patience. Just my opinion.

I wouldnt be against him being promoted for the playoffs or for a week or two at the end just for a bit of a taste. I just think promoting him with a couple months left could be trouble if he goes into a funk for those final two months. Everything he builds at Potomac would go into the crapper.

if he's raking still in post all star break, there's a slight chance he could get bumped up to AA to finish the year.  He would start next year in AA and then who knows.
