Truly, talk about no pressure on this team for the next few days, everyone is almost expecting some type of mercy rule to be instituted, even keeping it close would seem like a victory at this point.

It still boggles my mind that Shairon has more than 30% of our wins.

Yeah I was waiting for one of the cocky "I have a winning record making Gameday threads!" peoples to step up to the plate and put it on the line. Guess not, huh?

I'll be there tonight. I'm 0-2 on the year so far (2 games at Citi Field). Looking to make that a solid 0-3 because I take after the Nats in every way possible.  :'(

What are the odds that Manny is saying anything to the players about how they should believe they can hit Sabathia? I'm thinking he is giving the deer in the head lights look already just shaking his head muttering about how they just don't stand a chance.

I was surprised there wasn't one yet, so I went ahead and made it.  I don't really care about "my record" so whatever.

This game feels winnable. The Nats are great at loosing close games, games they should have a shot at, games they are leading, games against rookies, games against scrubs... It would only be fitting to shell CC.

We don't have much of a shot to win these games, but we should see our guys smack a few HRs during this series at this abomination of a stadium.

I've been up in New England for the last couple of days listening to a NY Sports Talk Radio station (WFAN for any of you familiar with the area).  They can't even talk about the Nats/Yankees series without chuckling AND they can't pronounce Martis' name correctly.  Sigh, we really are the laughing stock of MLB.  I mean I knew that, but it kinda hurts to listen to them talk about us.  Here's hoping we can salvage at least one and make them eat a little crow ;)

I thought Bard caught Martis.

Bard has caught Martis twice, while Nieves has paired up with him for 8 games in his career.  The splits are pretty much the same for the two, except when Bard catches Martis has a .154 BAA and 0.33 SO/BB ratio vs. when Nieves catches Martis has a .221 BAA and 1.82 SO/BB.  The sample size is much to small, though, to be useful.

I know we don't have much of a chance of winning this game and that even a sweep against the Yankees would mean little, but dag nabbit I could be satisfied with the team for awhile if we could miraculously pull 2 games out of this series.  I have way too many friends that are Yankees fans.

That's alright. We'll laugh plenty at them at the end of the season when that payroll of theirs doesn't buy them another World Series. At least the Nats have an excuse for losing with the roster we have.

yeah but they'll be in the playoffs and they aren't a joke of a franchise.

oh and as crazy as their owner is, at least he cares about the team/winning.

They are the only team currently that anything but a World Series victory makes their season a complete failure. With that roster and that payroll-- they don't end up winning the whole thing, then yeah, they are a joke and will be.

Yeah, bleeding out money has really gotten them a lot of rings these past eight years.

As a self confessed O's fan, I am shocked to see you defending them.

I have my doubts that they will be in the playoffs. I think Sox adn Rays finish 1,2 in the AL East. The Rays have the best run differential in baseball- over a season, that will translate into wins, and the red sox have a much better rotation and bullpen. This yankees team seems to be too full of past their prime over paid prima donnas
