A high school catcher signed in the 26th round is unusual, huh?

I was hoping Morris would get in here quickly.
So was I, but he's going to have to be shut down quickly anyway.

Depends.  If he was headed to a Juco or a small college it's not that unusual.  Some kids just want to going on their pro careers.  Some think 70k is a ton of money.

772. Gianison Boekhoudt, C, L/R,, 6-1, 205, 10/15/1989, Mary Carroll HS (TX)
That is a really cool name.

(Note: he has been drafted as a potential shortstop.)

I was expecting the Nats to sign a lot of their picks quicker than they have, although I did hear that they came to terms with some this weekend.  In comparison, other teams have already gotten many of their signings done and their players on teams, like Cleveland who has already signed 13 of their top 16 picks.  The Nats have signed 9 of their top 20 picks and only 4 of their top 10.

I did see on NFA that the Nats have signed Matt Swynenberg and Shane McCatty.

Shane McCatty

Wasn't his ERA like above 10 at some D-AAA school? Talk about favoritism. You draft guys like him in the 50th round, if at all.

Kober and Morris were both seniors I believe, so I'm not too concerned about them.

My bad, I thought they were seniors.  I'm still not overly concerned about those guys.

Here is PGCC's list of signing bonuses for the first 10 rounds, in case anyone wanted to see who and what kind of bonuses the guys around our picks were getting.

Morris was a fourth year junior. He still has another year but a lot less to gain from heading back

NFA Brian was kind enough to point out the Nats signed 17th round draft pick Chad Jenkins (Cecil College, MD).

Your same damn cheap Lerners  who signed the McGeary deal and gave him money and time to finish school, are doing the same for Jenkins.

Sheesh.

Who were the kids we drafted that were Texas recruits?  There were 3 or 4 I thought.

lol.  And I've given credit to the Lerners in that area (w/ exception of Crow).  I've said it repeatedly, they've done pretty good with signing their draft picks.

It doesn't mean the buck should stop there.  How about on improving on the MAJOR LEAGUE payroll?

I'd rather have Storen than Crow (may eat those words later, but whatever, I'm throwing that out there). I bet his teammates feel that way.

This money for school idea just makes me happy. Let these guys learn, it's a great thing!

it's not working out great for McGeary so far. hopefully they fix him down in FL.

I think the money for school deal is pretty much standard as part of the signing bonuses for underclassmen nowadays.  Obviously it's a bigger figure the younger the player is.

NOTLD,
Didn't Rizzo say that they had agreed to terms with a couple of picks while you were at 'blogger's night'?  I haven't seen any signings announced since then.

27th rd HS RHP Brandon King has signed with the Nationals.

Additionally, I have it on good authority that 19th rd RHP Frank Corolla was released after failing a physical

That leaves the Nationals at 22/51 to date

Jeez, Brandon King got a 250K bonus as their 27th round pick!  The Nationals really must have liked what they saw in him.
