Depends. If he was headed to a Juco or a small college it's not that unusual. Some kids just want to going on their pro careers. Some think 70k is a ton of money.

I was expecting the Nats to sign a lot of their picks quicker than they have, although I did hear that they came to terms with some this weekend. In comparison, other teams have already gotten many of their signings done and their players on teams, like Cleveland who has already signed 13 of their top 16 picks. The Nats have signed 9 of their top 20 picks and only 4 of their top 10.

I did see on NFA that the Nats have signed Matt Swynenberg and Shane McCatty.

Wasn't his ERA like above 10 at some D-AAA school? Talk about favoritism. You draft guys like him in the 50th round, if at all.

Kober and Morris were both seniors I believe, so I'm not too concerned about them.

who signed the McGeary deal and gave him money and time to finish school, are doing the same for Jenkins.

lol. And I've given credit to the Lerners in that area (w/ exception of Crow). I've said it repeatedly, they've done pretty good with signing their draft picks.

It doesn't mean the buck should stop there. How about on improving on the MAJOR LEAGUE payroll?

I think the money for school deal is pretty much standard as part of the signing bonuses for underclassmen nowadays. Obviously it's a bigger figure the younger the player is.
