[UPDATE, 5:05 p.m.] - I just spoke to Kobernus, who is in DC today, and will soon be flying out to report to the Class A Vermont Lake Monsters. "I'll be with them tonight," Kobernus said. "I'm not sure if I'm gonna play tomorrow, but it could be. If not then, sometime really soon."

Kobernus's bonus is $705,000, which is very much in line with MLB-recommended slotting guidelines. Last year, the recommended bonus for the No. 50 pick was somewhere between $787,000 (the amount accepted by the 49th pick, Johnny Giavotella, a college second baseman selected by Kansas City) and $772,000 (the amount accepted by 51st pick, Anthony Gose, a high school outfielder drafted by Philly). But this year, remember, MLB is calling for a 10-percent cut in bonuses, in conjunction with the economic decline.
