our young pitchers continue to do relatively well and the bullpen has been much improved. yet the losses continue to pile up. (Image removed from quote.)

It was frustrating sitting there last night. The pitching was good other than Detwiler's inexcusable walks. (Bergmann and Villone were excellent. What a waste having so many games spoiled by Hanrahan earlier in the season.) Detwiler pitcher very well, but killed himself with the walks. The pitching strategy continues to suck. Sure, the guy needs to execute the pitches, but clearly, they weren't willing to have him just throw strikes to Cueto with one on and one out. They were trying to be cute and he got behind 2-0 and then ended up walking him. Disaster. When will Acta learn that giving away outs and bases on either side of the game is the big problem. Walks are just inexcusable in these situations and the 2-out walks and walks of the pitchers have been killing these pitchers all season. Firing St. Claire did nothing to correct for this BS.

The good thing is that Bergmann continues to show that he should have been part of the bullpen as a one-inning guy all along.
