Eckstein is repeatedly SCREAMING at the home plate umpire for the strike at Kearns' ANKLES,
"That's TERRIBLE.  That's TERRIBLE. YOU HAVE NO INTEGRITY!  YOU HAVE NO INTEGRITY!"
Zimmerman, Acta, Kearns joined him.

That Home Plate umpire - Andy Fletcher - is a FRAUD.

We need to write to MLB, demanding that prick be fired.

What did Acta do, stand there with his usual blank stare?

Acta casually walked out there and got between Kearns and the Ump. He wasn't fired up or anything. Same crap, different day with Manny. He should have been gone in April.

all things considering, detwiler pitched well.  he dug his own hole when he walked the pitcher with one out, but he gave us 6 innings of 3-run ball ... a quality start.

oh well it's our 41st loss of the year, manny acta gets to keep his cushy job and the lerners continue to sit back and collect their dough.

even a mild-mannered RZ was furious in the dugout.

These umpires need to start being called out in the media. That guy behind the plate tonight couldn't umpire a freaking t-ball game.

our young pitchers continue to do relatively well and the bullpen has been much improved. yet the losses continue to pile up.

Eck for interim manager! That was impressive.

QUOTED FOR TRUTH.

I would lodge a protest with the league. Pretty sure no one is gonna side with that ump on those calls against Dunn and Kearns. That ump might need to re-learn where the strike zone again by spending some time in the minors. The league should at least acknowledge that those calls were wrong and reprimand that guy.

QUOTED FOR TRUTH.
Acta is too much of a  C O W A R D   to do that.

That isn't a quality start. I don't care what Detwiler's agent calls it.6 innings of no hit ball isn't a quality start. Any time the Nats have to use three guys out of the bullpen, it's a crappy start.

It was frustrating sitting there last night. The pitching was good other than Detwiler's inexcusable walks. (Bergmann and Villone were excellent. What a waste having so many games spoiled by Hanrahan earlier in the season.) Detwiler pitcher very well, but killed himself with the walks. The pitching strategy continues to suck. Sure, the guy needs to execute the pitches, but clearly, they weren't willing to have him just throw strikes to Cueto with one on and one out. They were trying to be cute and he got behind 2-0 and then ended up walking him. Disaster. When will Acta learn that giving away outs and bases on either side of the game is the big problem. Walks are just inexcusable in these situations and the 2-out walks and walks of the pitchers have been killing these pitchers all season. Firing St. Claire did nothing to correct for this BS.

The good thing is that Bergmann continues to show that he should have been part of the bullpen as a one-inning guy all along.

exactly.  hanrahan sucks, but for some reason continues to get chances.  we fired st. claire even though it's not his fault our bullpen is made up of AAAA retreads and our rotation is made up of kids.  and somehow manny acta still has a job.

I'm not disappointed with Detwiler at all. He has shown some upside and some of his issues can be improved on.

That umpire was a disgrace. How long will this kind of unprofessionalism last? MLB has to address this umpire issue at some point.

It isn't an official stat even. Just a stat that was made up by agents to promote their clients during arbitration.

did he give us a chance to win?  was it his fault we failed to get a run in with bases loaded, grounded into a double play and left countless baserunners at 2nd?

as spidernat said, sure he has some kinks to work out - hell if he was with any other organization, he'd still be in the minors - but he gave us a chance to win ... and in my book 6 innings, 3 earned runs is a quality start.

Detwiler had a decent outing considering his lack of experience. If he didn't walk a couple of the guys he did, he would have pitched a shutout. Our pitchers have to learn to trust their stuff and not pitch out of fear. I wish teams would just fine guys for lead off walks and walking pitchers. Perhaps that would knock some sense into them that walks are the difference makers.

But overall, Detwiler has shown he has good stuff and has also lived up to his reputation of being able to perform in poor conditions.

He probably would not have been a first round draft pick for other organizations though.

QFT to what SSB was saying. It sucks to see pitching we could have used earlier instead we had to see bums like Joel and Saul freak it up early on.

Detwiler pitched great tonight. He messed up on that walk and a few other things but besides that, kept it a low scoring game. It sucks when you cant get a run in on bases loaded and have umps that are blind as a freaking bat.

Willingham should've had a 6-1 count. Dunn had a walk and that strike to Kearns. WTF?

Yeah he definitely gave us a chance to win last night. I wasn't ripping him. I just despise the low standard of the so called quality start. And for the record, I am the boss when it comes to determining for myself whether a book is weak or not.

He was a perfect fit for the Nats in '07, but it was a question of when not if he would be picked in the 1st round. I remember wanting Aumont, but Detwiler was a great pick.

Yeah, there were mock drafts that had him going before #6 to the Nats, in fact.  Not sure what spidey was talking about there...

I love Detwiler, but I would have loved if the team took Bumgarner instead. That future rotation would be sick if we did draft him.
