I think we'll win this series. I like the pitching matchups.
I think we can take the games against Happ and Moyer, but doubt we win against Hamels. Hamels has been throwing the ball real well lately. Really, as sad as it is, I just don't want to be swept again. To make matters worse, we face Lincecum immediately after this series.
I have a feeling Dunn and Johnson will not fair well this series. Three left handers? Ouch.
Nobody on the team has had more than 3 PA's against Happ, so it's hard to say. What kind of pitcher is he?
When Happ is healthy, hitters have a hard time getting looks at his low 90’s fastball because of his natural deception. Happ’s fastball has good life and finish through the zone with some armside run. His 82-85 mph changeup was his most improved offering in 2007, as he increased its depth and was able to locate it well against righthanders. Happ’s slider remains too soft and loopy, and he really gets into trouble when his stuff tends to flatten out late in games. He repeats his delivery well, but he needs to get stronger to maintain his delivery. He projects as a #3 or 4 starter.
Happ has a good 91-93 MPH fastball with all of the movement that a customary southpaw offers. Like many lefties, he also has an excellent changeup with good fade and deception. Happ is a poised and confident pitcher that locates both his fastball and change quite well. His slider has some promise as well, but it is still a less effective offering than either of his other two pitches. One of the criticisms of J.A. was his his inability to work deep into games because of his lack of strength and stamina. Happ has a lanky and lean frame, but he doesn't throw downhill on hitters like he should. This leads to a high rate of fly ball outs which, in Citizen's Bank Ballpark, could be disastrous.
Also, reminder S.S. Savior pitches tonight.
Did Gwynn announce it officially yet? He's been coy as to whether or not he'd throw him tonight or roll the dice and throw him tomorrow. Either way it should be on ESPNU.
I don't know. It might be on ESPN360. We don't get that here, but if you do where you are, you might be able to see it that way.
UVA has a release that says Comcastsportsnet will carry the game at 7.http://www.virginiasports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=88831&SPID=10613&DB_OEM_ID=17800&ATCLID=3744539
Guessing it's not CSN philly.
Not according to the Post's online TV guide. (Channel 21 in DC is Comcast Philly)
Really? Not in the burbs . . .
