I don't think Manny is fundamentally aware of what's happening. Martis would be better to pitch another inning even if Belliard had hit a homerun, but he wasn't going to anyway.
The bullpen is going to give up runs, regardless of how many we score. Pitching Martis another inning would give the bullpen one less inning to blow the game....which they're going to do anyway.
