dunn or no dunn, zimm still has to hit the ball.
yeah, Zito has him real off balance today. hopefully seeing a reliever in his next AB will help

The game won't matter but a hitting streak does! That speaks volumes about how some of the fans think around here. I bet if Zimmerman is hitless going into the 9th and we're winning people would prefer if the Giants tie the game so Zimmerman can get additional at bats in extra innings.  :?

Yeah, and that's crazy. Hitting streaks are all well and good, but they are meaningless until you approach the record - which is a virtual statistical impossibility. The hit streak is good because it is helping the offense

exactly.  and dunn vs. zito isn't a great match-up for us.

Dunn getting the rest is more important down the road.

Obviously, but do you think he'll see the same pitches with .197 5HR Willingham on deck as when .313 11HR Dunn is on deck?

Wallace has a really tough time making the routine throws. I was the same way.

I could care less about the record itself, I'm talking about the media attention it has garnered. It's nice to see my team (and an alumnus from my school :D) be the focus of ESPN and such. With this crappy crappy bullpen, wins aren't gonna get us anywhere....sigh guess I'm just being selfish :-/

Pitch track had a strike 3 called a ball there. A lot of balls on the corners have been called balls for both pitchers. But that one was marked well within the box and they called ball 3 instead of strike 3.

Quoted for Truth.
Losing teams live for achieving records like this.  Ask the Frank Howard Mutant Statue.  DiMaggio's 56-game streak seems impossible, but having Zim-with-1-N get 2nd place, or as high as possible, means that his name will be mentioned, anytime a future player gets a good streak going.  And THAT provides PRIDE in the franchise for [Nationals] fans.

EDIT:  And the longer Zim-with-1-N goes, the more likely he'll get VOTED into the 2009 and future All Star games...  Do Giants fans really want the Mets' David Wright in the All Stars this year?

those are terrible fans.  i would take a nats win over anything.  i don't care about individual accomplishments, it's all about the team.  of course they are nice, but whatever can get us a win.

Nice work. Lot of pitches after getting squeezed facing Winn. Nice to see a perfect pitch away for the punch out. That tracked right on the corner of the box.
