How does MLB the show franchise mode compare to OOTP?

I can't wait for MLB '10 the Show  :az:, it comes out 3 days before my Bday.

Also I've been playing the Battlefield Bad Company 2 demo a lot recently, its a nice change of pace from CODMW2. It also bring me back to the days of Battlefield 2 on PC, that game was ahead of it's time  :worship:

Not really comparable. OOTP is a text-sim for the PC, while The Show is a console game. OOTP is much, much, much more in-depth and polished, but that's just how it's always going to be. I love OOTP but I get bored when I can't play the games sometimes. The Show is real solid for a console game, though. Much better than Madden and NHL (no idea how the NBA series are).

I recently bought a PS3 but was debating whether I should get an 360, I have a lot of friends on there but just couldn't justify not having wireless, no bluray player, and paying for online gaming (plus I knew the show '10 was coming out). I'm not sure why people buy an xbox.

Because its got games.

and a better online service at that (only downside is the pay per year)

I'll take the 360 online service over PSN crappy ass stuff any day of the week. Plus the controller sucks for FPS' on PS3. That's why I owned a 360 before a PS3.

Also, I like a lot of exclusives on 360 over the PS3 exclusives.

What games, like other exclusive ones? I've messed around with friends' xbox live accounts but don't know enough about it to judge that it's a superior online service.

I kept inadvertantly throwing grenades while I was trying to fire with the left trigger in CODMW2 on my friend's xbox (hitting L1 or whatever).

What are the xbox exclusive titles?

Gears of War, Halo, Mass Effect 2 (granted I don't have that yet), Alan Wake looks good. Few others I'm missing I'm sure.

I knew Gears of War and Halo, forgot about Mass Effect 2. I guess it just depends on what you like, Halo is cool but when I played the first Gears of War I wasn't all that impressed (granted it was only for a few minutes).

I love the ps3 exclusives. MAG and the Show are awesome and I hate Halo and was never a huge GOW fan.

I'll have to look up my PSN tag when I get home... but I'd love to try and get a game in with you guys.

The only problem is... the glaring flaw of The Show is its craptastic online gameplay. Lags like a mother.

I think I'm going to put my PSN Tag in my sig, so it's easy to find.

I'd like to play on ps3 as well. I only have 2 games right now (Madden and NHL '10) but am planning on getting The Show as soon as it comes out.

Gears of War, Halo, Mass Effect, Xbox Live Arcade, Left 4 Dead, Tom Clancy, and maybe a few others. Those are all highly recommended games but if action/shooter isn't your style then I guess it doesn't really appeal.

The Show is the best console sports game probably ever, certainly the best next gen sports game.

FIFA 10 is pretty amazing, too.

question for your PS3 folks.

If I buy a Used PS3 (probably the old 80Gb one), instead of the current PS3 slim, what features do I miss out on?

I sold my old one that was 3 years old for almost what I bought it for, they are more sought after because of the playback technology (ability to play ps2 and ps1 games) and the multiple ports (sd slots, etc). I bought a new one and it's nice because it's smaller, and I never really played older games so I don't miss that feature.

the main feature that I want that the new ones don't have, is the ability to install Linux.

I understand that the PS3 only has 256MB of RAM, but I should theoretically be able to still use it as a PC substitute, yes? how much will having so little RAM affect my OS' performance?

thinking about buying an old PS3, installing Linux, and then giving this Laptop to my Wife.  she really, really wants a computer of her own, and the only thing I ever do on the Laptop is web-browse anyway, I can do that on the PS3 Linux install if I want. right?

I had Ubuntu on my old PS3, never haven't tried it on the new one. They currently have a browser built in to them (not sure how good it is cause I never use it). But all you would have to do out of the box is plug in a keyboard and get an internet connection and you are there.

2k9 was a disgrace and was a major factor in my purchase of a PS3.

The NHL series from EA is #1 IMO.

the newer PS3s(PS3 Slim) do not allow Linux installs.

it's relates to a video game console though. so it has a place in the video game thread, to a limit.
