Nats Finally Fry Those freakin Fish
Bonifacio goes 0-for-4, commits 2 errors as Nats roll

( April 8 )  Miami - A day after a sloppy Opening Day 12-6 loss, the Nationals took exception to their sluggish play and thwarted the Marlins 17-2.  Adam Dunn continued where he left off on Monday, going 3-for-4 with a mammoth 3-run homer, a 2-run double, a walk and a strike out, leading the Nationals to one of their best all around games since coming to Washington D.C.

"We earned this one today," manager Manny Acta said.  "A lot of pundits and fans have written us off after one game, but we weren't ready to throw in the towel.  We know it's a long season."

The Nationals hope starter Scott Olsen can pitch more like he did last night in the rest of the season.  The left-hander, acquired in the offseason from the Marlins, pitched 8 scoreless innings, only giving up three hits and striking out six.  Emilio Bonifacio, who came over in that same deal from the Nationals, came back down to reality by going 0-for-4 and committing two errors at the hot corner.

Every starting position player on the Nationals recorded at least one hit, with Elijah Dukes and Josh Willingham (also included in the deal) contributing off the bench.  Even Roger Bernadina had a solid night with Washington's AAA farm club, Syracuse, keeping poster Sportsfan882 happy.

The only player who didn't have a smile on his face in the clubhouse was Julian Tavarez who gave up the two lone Marlins runs.  At the time this story was printed, it is unknown as to whether Jason Bergmann will be called up to replace Tavarez.

What?  No mention of the Huevo Whiffer?  He left 7 on base, including two guys who didn't even play in the game.

Headlines need to be short, simple, to the point, but eye catching.

the debacle of opening day is behind us...LETS GET TO .500!

the Nats need Olsen to step it up. i have faith that he will own his former team.

I'd love to see Dukes get a start tonight...but he'll probably have to wait until the matinee tomorrow.

If you don't give a crap about baseball minutiae, don't bother reading the rest of this post. But if you're a baseball geek, please continue...

I've noticed something about the way the lineups have been presented here and elsewhere this year (for both spring training and regular season games). Is this something new, or have I just never noticed it?

In the lineup, the catcher is listed as "SC" instead of just "C". Why? Does it mean "starting catcher?" If so, that's kinda weird, because you doesn't see "S1B" or "SCF". I suppose it's always said "SP" for the pitcher, because "starting pitcher" is an accepted phrase to distinguish him from a relief pitcher...but why "SC" for the catcher?

I just started noticing it this year, but have been watching baseball all my life. And WNFF isn't the only place I've seen it. What gives?

(CF) Lastings Milledge
(SS) Cristian Guzman
(3B) Ryan Zimmerman
(LF) Adam Dunn
(1B) Nick Johnson
(RF) Austin Kearns
(2B) Ronnie Belliard
(SC) Jesus Flores
(SP) Scott Olsen

I think I've only seen it on the NJ and then translated over here to tell you the truth since the line-ups are usually taken from there I believe.

It's gotta just be to keep everything at two character positions, no?

Possible. Although I'd prefer to blame it on the food critic.

Its SC to keep it in a nice order.

It would look ugly to the eye with

(CF) Lastings Milledge
(SS) Cristian Guzman
(3B) Ryan Zimmerman
(LF) Adam Dunn
(1B) Nick Johnson
(RF) Austin Kearns
(2B) Ronnie Belliard
(C) Jesus Flores
(SP) Scott Olsen

ahhh the uneven indentations!
