Pentagon Memorial Park
« Topic Start: September 23, 2008, 12:19:18 PM »
Does anyone know how far a walk the memorial park is from the metro stop (top of escalator)? All I've been able to find on the web is that it is "walking distance." My Dad has limited mobility, so I am trying to determine whether the trip is feasible for him.

This was pretty easy to do on Google maps (if that application was any easier, I would be very, very frightened).

It looks like it's .4 miles. Here's the link.

<http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=Western+side+of+Pentagon+(Pentagon+Memorial+9%2F11%2F08)&daddr=Metrobus+Island+Pentagon+Shop+Concourse,+Ft+Myer,+VA+22211+(Pentagon+Station)&hl=en&geocode=FUEdUQIdayto-yEiJ2bj0hrQvQ%3BFeQZUQIds0Bo-yGcYPmqc4KJHA&mra=cc&dirflg=w&sll=38.868816,-77.056013&sspn=0.003876,0.008733&ie=UTF8&z=17>

Start address: Pentagon Memorial 9/11/08 Western side of Pentagon End address: Pentagon Station Metrobus Island Pentagon Shop Concourse Ft Myer, VA 22211

Start at: Pentagon Memorial 9/11/08 Western side of Pentagon

1. Head east on N Rotary Rd toward Pentagon Access Rd - 0.3 mi 2. Turn left at Pentagon Access Rd - 0.1 mi

Arrive at: Pentagon Station Metrobus Island Pentagon Shop Concourse Ft Myer, VA 22211

Thanks a bunch, Gburg. That's a little better than the 3/4 mi. from the South Parking lot.

HMM.  Limited Mobility?  Its on the complete opposite side of where the Metro is.  Its not bad but you might want to bring a travel wheelchair just in case.

If you're allowed to park in South Parking, that's much closer than Metro.  Not sure.

try www.pentagonmemorial.net

Maybe they have information for you.  I was there on Dedication day and did a LOT of walking.

Thanks, CALSGR8. I thought South Parking was actually further than metro. I guess I will have to go over this weekend and case the joint.

Well, for the Dedication, the Ceremony essentially was in South Parking and the Memorial itself was around the corner.   That last link I put, I think would be the most helpful.  The memorials are arranged by age from Youngest to oldest.  There is a list of the names there along with the year they were born so you can look in the correct line.

FYI--there 5 dedicated handicapped spots and a number of drop-off points adjacent to the Park, where they are adamant that the driver not stop after unloading passengers. (I guess the driver gets to circle the lot like a gettaway car.)
