The thing to look at is the fact that the Nats are able to stock Double-A, High & Low A with primarily their own guys

Back when they relocated to DC, there were far too many minor league free agents needed to fill rosters

As much as you want to see the top prospects, there is a value in having the rest of the roster filled with guys who have come up through your system. They understand the expectations and help to establish a mindset at their level

I can remember the days when the P-Nats were STARTING 26-year old minor league free agents

All this talk, and it glances over Smoker's emergence as a reliever.

Closed out 2010 on a great note, and while it's just one game, has continued success as a reliever. As a lefty with the power stuff he's showing, he could move quickly. As in MLB next year quick. Burnett's our late inning lefty but Slaten's replacable. If Smoker deals like he did to close last year, he's going to reach AAA this season.

Im not making any bold predictions about him being in the bigs next season, just saying now that he's a full time reliever, he could move fast. My guess would be a call up at some point next season if things go well, but he's got as bright a future as anyone at Potomac IMO.

How hard does Smoker throw?

I know he took well to relief last year, in terms of K/9, maybe we can have a Matt Thornton type, not named Detwiler (sorry JCA).

Willingham didn't get 30 PA in a single MLB season until he was 27. You don't like the comparison because it shows that 24 isn't too old.

I've been most impressed with his D.  Him and Perez in the outfield is almost unfair to opposing teams.

On the other hand, Cutter Dykstra is already living up to his reputation.  While not three errors, he has had three miscues on defense tonight so far.

Alex Caldera, pitcher acquired by Nats from the Royals this offseason, got crapped on in his debut with the P-Nats.  He did just switch to relief, but his 4 ER almost put the game out of reach.  That was until an argument with the ump by Matt LeCroy (apparently he attempts to get thrown out of the game at least once a month) fired up the P-Nats.  King, Leon, and Dykstra all reached and Perez beat out a DP ball to set things up for Rick Hague.  Hague put the team back in the game with an oppo-boppo.  Bottom of the 8th, P-Nats down 1.

If Hague can figure out his defensive issues he could be a legitimate prospect. His bat is awesome.

Yup therein lies the problem with Hague. Was awful defensively in a few months in the Minors last season and not a good start this year. A move to 2B might be on horizon.

To those wondering about Bloxom.  He is in extended ST because of issues with his knee.  He is expected to join the P-Nats by the end of the month.

Hood and Leon coming through for the P-Nats.  Cutter Dykstra has a chance to end this game with a single swing in the bottom of the 9th.
