Phillies Protest Marlins Win

An umpiring call reviewed by video tape.  A double or homerun was called out due to fan interference.

Umpire claims Charlie Manuel was questioning if a ball hit to the outfield was a home run or not.  Home run calls are reviewed.  Other calls are not!
Charlie Manuel said he did not and that the call should NOT have been reviewed in the first place.

While I believe Manuel has every right to protest, what will it benefit a team that has the best record with no one able to catch up to them?  It's the umps word vs. Charlie's.

On MLB Network they said that Manuel will lose the protest.  The rule in MLB is different than the rule in the NFL.  In the NFL, if you are reviewing a call, and notice another mistake (like a holding on a catch / no catch call), you cannot overturn the call on the new basis.  In  MLB, everything you see on the camera shot is fair game for reversal.  As long as Joe West (yes, Joe West) says he was reviewing to see if the ball struck the yellow line or was in the stands, he can call the fan interference and he can't be reversed.

He's a turd, but in this instance, he is a turd who can be happy with the knowledge that, for the first time in a while, he can be both a sack of turd  and correct.

Joe West is a bad azz d00d.  Yeah, he can be annoying but I like him.  To be fair, I'd probably like Mussolini if he were still around.

You might want to see if sportsfan will let you borrow his straight jacket.

That smarmy POS was showing up Ramos for no good reason the other day.

Be a shame if the next time West umps home at a Nats' game, Ramos would happen to miss a 95 MPH fast ball down the middle ...   'bout head high would do it.

It would be a shame because Ramos would be suspended forever.

I think West might be the only person I've ever booed at a professional sporting event. It was the day after he tossed a couple people last year for no good reason. I can't remember exactly what happened.

So what you are saying is there would be a use to re-signing Wil Nieves.

I actually met him at an airport restaurant a couple of years ago when we were both waiting out a delay.  Really cool guy on a personal level, I even dig his music.  That said, his antics on the field are out of line most of the time.

Should have given him a Livo.

Oh, gotcha.

I've read similar stories about him and how he is in real life. Hey, a lot of people are decent IRL but a nightmare to work with professionally.

Isn't it technically the imps responsibility not to interfere and get out if the way? We should do it against Philly so they can protest when their runner doesn't score on a passed ball

Since the pine-tar game, has MLB upheld a suspension? It seems like even when the umps are wrong, MLB backs them and denies the protest.
