A Rant on Local Cowboy Fans
« Topic Start: August 25, 2006, 12:58:31 AM »
I've never understood Cowboy fans that aren't from Texas.  You see them everywhere!  Example in point:  Inner city kids with big blue stars on their hats...sporting the hip-hop culture with an emblem from a country-western city?  What exactly is going on there?!

So always, when I see a cowboy fan in the Washington area...I ask them,

"So when you move here from Dallas / Ft Worth?"

So they usually look at me strange and say..."I never lived in Dallas / Ft Worth."

To which I usually look at them equally strange and say..."Oh...from Texas then?"

They always reply..."Nope."

With a puzzled look on my face...I continue with, "Have you ever even been to the state of Texas?"  To which they usually finally concede that no they know absolutely nothing about Texas and follow with a multitude of hilarious answers such as...

-Nah man...I just like the team.
-Blue & Silver kicks ass.
-I love that big star emblem.
-oh bro!  Deon Sanders used to play for them!
-they are the first team I saw as a kid.
-because it's right for the streets!
-<shrug shoulders> Just do.
-I've always liked them ever since Tom Landry...you know that old guy with that cool hat?  He was the sh__ man.
-because their cheerleaders are hot dude!
-I just hate the Redskins (Redskin fans)

and of course the catch all that always makes everyone sick:
-Because they are America's Team man...don't you know that?

Hey guys, please add any other cool excuses you've heard from others!  Oh I know I know...the Dallas fans are gonna post all these legitimate reasons why they ARE cowboy fans in the Washington area...but whatever - I don't believe you.

You have to remember that Washington DC is a transient area.
The majority of the people around this area, weren't born here.
People move here for careers or the military and they bring with
them their allegence to the teams they followed growing up.

I think fans in this area pay too much attention to these people.
If you cheer for the Redskins, and you come across a Cowboy fan,
talk to him. I've seen these fans from other teams at FED EX. They
are trying to goat you into confrontation.

You react and they win!
The best way to shut them up is have our teams beat them. Then
you won't hear a peep out of 'em!

On the bright side (if you can call it that) some Texans are Redskins fans.  The most recognizable one is Matthew McConaughey.

Thank you for the sermon St. Nats Bruin.  My whole point is that alot of Cowboy fans ARE from this area...or at the very least never even set foot in Texas.  Did you read my post?  And as far as goating someone into confrontation...what kind of football do you watch?  That's the whole damn point silly!    What would football be without confrontation?  NOTE: If you're a female...I apologize whole heartedly.

It wasn't a sermon. It was my experience/opinion. Just like
you gave yours.

Hardly a female, but still....apology accepted.

I agree....all Cowgirl fans in DC that have no association with Dallas whatsoever are scum suckers.  It's very simple.
