Over the 2012 season, Anthony Rendon has as many doubles as singles. 4 singles, 4 doubles, 1 triple, 3 homers. 13 games.

The question is does he skip Hagerstown and finish the season in Potomac.

He may really be a candidate for DH but he still has to run the bases.

He was playing in Potomac before so I'd hope so.

If he's healthy he'll be up before next September.

Midseason call up next year. He could make espi some great trade bait.  A young mlb second basemen with 20+-20+ potential.  We could package him with one or  two b level prospects and get a bone fide ace

Rendon, in my mind is done playing MI. Likely ticketed for 1B/3B.

If Edgar Martinez and David Ortiz have taught us anything, it's that DHs only have to lightly jog around the bases

I agree, Rendon will never see second base. He's simply too fragile for it.

Mindfacting.

Rendon injured himself rounding third base this time around. He injured his ankle previously in a rundown as the runner. His shoulder muscle strain that bothered him his junior season would certainly not be better off at 3B than at 2B.

He may be too fragile for baseball, but I can't see any evidence that if he's NOT too fragile for baseball, then any position might be more likely than another to keep him healthy.

To actually attempt a mindfact on my own, it seems to me that more 3B are just as, if not more subject to sporadic injuries than 2B, just due to the nature of the position. For example, last year Longoria, Beltre, Youkilis, Polanco, Chipper, and Zimmerman all missed significant time.

The one thing you avoid (mostly) at 3B is the charging runner on a takeout slide, as you would face at 2B.

In the end, I think Rendon likely ends up a 1B/DH due to just not being able to stay healthy at a more demanding infield position.

Why do so many want to trade him? I would consider trading the inconsistent Espy long before Rendon.

1. He's fragile (nick Johnson 2.0)
2. The NL doesn't have a DH

I'm not even sure 1B isn't the best place for him in this organization, to be honest. 2014 looks REAL open at that position, and REAL closed at just about every other position. Hopefully Mr. Glass can keep off the DL next year to prove his bat.

It's a weird fit though, given his stature. But Rafael Palmeiro and Don Mattingly were pretty awesome all-around 1B as [relatively] little guys.

A lot depends on whether Morse gets an extension, in which case, I think he slots to first to make room for a more athletic outfield

Morse is going to have to do a lot more to justify a multi-year investment at 1B, in my opinion, or Rendon is going to have to show a lot less than everyone thinks he's capable of.

When you look at Morse's stats and see that his BB% is not rising while his K% will continue to rise... I don't think any investment past his current contract makes much sense.

As much as I love The Beast, I have to agree with this.

I agree with this. If he can match his slugging from last year, I think he should definitely be considered trade material. Pick up the option on LaRoche for another year and let him platoon with Moore. We could also use Moore in LF if necessary.

From this week's BA Prospect Hot Sheet..

Quote
MAN AMONG BOYS

• When Nationals 3B Anthony Rendon broke his ankle in the second game of the season, it looked like there was a chance his first pro season was over after 48 hours. The 22-year-old himself said as much in an interview a few weeks later. But with more than a month to go in the season, Rendon is back. After a five-game injury rehab stint in the Gulf Coast League, he has been bumped up to short-season Auburn. While the competition is better, it's still well below Rendon's level of experience, a fact borne out by his .375/.474/.500 batting line this week.

Yeah, time for him to get to Potomac again. No reason to keep him well below his readiness.

What about moving him to LF?  Not that it helps his prospects with the Nats, but maybe he stays healthy there and turns into a trade chip.

Given his ankle troubles involving running, I'm not sure if the outfield is a good place for him.
