Unbelievable how effective he is at home v. on the road.  2 hits, 1BB, 8 IP at the Coliseum.  One of the easiest plays in H2H fantasy leagues is to start him at home and bench him on the road.

Do you suppose he is a registered voter in Santa Cruz and lobbying against building a new stadium for the As?

The splits are a little misleading. He pitched well in Anaheim,Texas and Seattle. The three road parks that are far and away the most important.

Jamey Carroll hit a home run, breaking the longest homerless streak in the majors.

Quote
With one out in the top of the fifth, Jamey Carroll batted against Hector Santiago. Carroll worked a trademark long, annoying at-bat, and then he lined a 2-and-2 fastball just over the fence in left field. It wasn’t the first home run of Carroll’s career — in fact, it was the 13th — but it did snap the longest homerless drought in major-league baseball. Carroll hadn’t homered since August 2009, and while home runs in Chicago aren’t quite like home runs in Seattle or home runs in Oakland, we don’t award fractional homers. You either hit a home run or you didn’t, and Monday, Jamey Carroll hit a home run.

There to greet him in front of the dugout, appropriately enough, was Ben Revere.

The article goes on to discuss how Revere has not homered in the majors. Second longest active streak in the majors (950 PAs) next to Reggie Willits, who is not in the majors now.

Tommy Milone is out-hitting Derek Norris. However, "the ghost of Kurt Suzuki" is outhitting both. See:

with both Baltimore and NYY losing today, it is 21 days in a row that they have been within 1 game of each other.  Even before today, it was the longest stretch at the top of a division or league since 1951, I think I heard today.

The '78 Yankees and Red Sox were close for the last few weeks of the season...don't remember how long. Ended in a playoff when Catfish Hunter lost the last game of the regular season.

I know the Yankees were interested in him after he was DFA'd, but after they got Ichiro any notions of him signing there were squelched.

Yes, but the Sox fell 4 games back with 2 weeks left before catching the NYY. It was the NYY rush to first, then it was the Sox comeback once they benched Butch Hobson and pitched Bill Lee.

Just saw Jamey Carroll get a base hit off of Andy Petitte. Same Jamey Carroll, I do believe, who played for Montreal and then the Nats in 2005. Still at it. Painful: Nats sold Carroll for $300,000.

And a few minutes later, the Yankees broadcasters talk about how Andy P got "the dangerous Willingham".

40 and 41 tonight for Dunn.

41 to bring the White Sox back in a very meaningful game against the Indians.

How's that taste Ricciardi?

Nats are better with LaRoche at 1B, but I still like Adam Dunn. Good news.

Shawn Hill is pitching for the Blue Jays against the Yankees.

Three innings. Two walks, no hits or runs or Ks.
First major league appearance since 2010; just his fourth relief appearance ever (majors or minors).

And Shawn Hill gets the non-curly W.

Hill seems to have had the worst medicals ever. Two Tommy Johns, plus a surgery to relieve pressure in the nerves in his pitching arm. That's the one I remember when he was with the Nats...and it turns out to have been a mistake. Unnecessary.

Says he had pain all the time; spent time between starts just recovering enough from the pain to try again.

A doctor (Tampa Bay Devil Rays?) finally noticed that a bone in his back (approximately) would cut blood flow to his arm every time he threw. That is, cause of problem far away from where the symptom show. They removed a rib, and he now pitches without pain.

Got picked up by Blue Jays -- he's from a suburb of Toronto -- while pitching for the Canadian national team in some tournament.

Take a look at his Baseball Ref entry and see the money he made from baseball...at or below major league minimum, although only counts his salary through 2009. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/hillsh01.shtml

Hats off to Shawn Hill!

Larry Broadway in the news... but not for a good thing.

He's the new Farm Director for the Pirates... and on his watch, one of their top players went down with an injury doing their stupid marine drills we've talked about in the past.
