It was, that ball was hit hard and right to Desi. Could have turned two or gotten the easy out at home.

He rightfully was thinking of who was running to second and needed to guarantee one or the other. The throw home was the easy sure thing. He blew it.

Really?  I'd put the Nats staff from top to bottom against any other staff in MLB.  And not break a sweat.
Certain guys aren't pitching up to their potential. Burnett and Jordan Zimmermann have not been good lately. Burnett is more troubling to me because we leaned on him heavily in the first half and he was huge. He has been a shell of his old self lately.

What the freak do you want from Burnett?   A grounder to the SS and he freaks up?

whatever, Edwin needs to sack up tomorrow and pitch a gem. We get to face Hanson who we generally do well against. A win would be nice and then Gio on Sunday.

I wanted him to retire Simmons and Bourn. The hanging offspeed pitch to Bourn was the most unforgivable. Runners on the corner with 1 out, the odds of getting out of that unscathed were low.

Even if Desmond got Simmons at the plate then they still had their best hitter, Prado, coming up with a chance to win the game vs a LHP.

Desmond's only choice was to throw home. The infield was in which negated any double play opportunity. Even if he throws right on the money it's still a pretty close play. Quit nagin', nages.

MLB ‏@MLB
The @Braves have won Kris Medlen's last TWENTY starts, tying the best streak over the past 50 seasons in @MLB.

20-0 over Medlen's last 20 starts. That is just incredible. As I have been saying for several months now, ACE.

detwiler was good ... medlen got the biggest strike zone known to man ... espinosa and bernadina daggers ... tonight isn't a bad loss.  let's relax folks.

+1.

I wondered if last night was Davey's attempt to give Burnett some batters to prove he's back to normal. I was not optimistic, though.

THIS DAY WITH THE '05 OVERACHIEVERS: Wednesday 14th September 2005 saw the Nats make it two straight over the Mets at Shea (my, how they enjoy playing the Mets on the road nowadays!), 6-3. This was the one in which Jose Guillen threw stuff onto the field (helmet, a few bats, shinguard) and was thumbed, then Wilson and Castilla hit consecutive homers...record now 75-71...http://espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=250914121

---

Mystics lost again (10th straight) yesterday in front of a slightly larger-than-usual 'crowd' (for want of a better term)...what made this different was blowing a halftime lead (42-32), something they have rarely enjoyed this year...just not our day for the local sides.
