This has got to be the most boring offseason we have had in quite a long time. When's the Rule V draft?

Royals willing to unload Hosmer, Gordon, Butler or Moosetacos for a quality SP.

When can we expect single game tickets to go on sale?  Would like to pick up some PNC seats for a few select games...

I'd listen to Gordon and then we could slide Morse over to 1B.

Gordon would be a solid leadoff hitter, as well.

If they want SP,  I'm guessing the cost for home would be Zimmermann,  and no way in hell would I do that

Negotiations between the #Nats and first baseman Adam LaRoche are going slowly, according a person familiar with the talks. #MLB

aka

Nats: Hey listen Adam we appreciate what you did last year, but we're really cheap.  Like really cheap.
LaRoche: See ya.

Rangers sign Scott Olsen.

I'm guessing the issue with LaRoche is years, not money.  He's probably seeking a 4 year deal and we don't want to give him more than 3.

It's not money.  It's years.  Why would the Nats give him anything over two years with an option for a third if that blocks potential high quality young talent from reaching the majors?

Because he's the best option for the next two years (years where we should be contenders) and the price of having good him the next two years may be more years on the back end than you'd otherwise want (ie money since you could always eat salay and trade him after two)

Sure - give him three years.  His last year, if he really slides, he becomes a very highly paid Chad Tracy.  If they keep the same team intact, they could be better than last year since they won't open the year with Ankiel in CF and they'll get 200 innings of Strasburg.  The 'pen needs to be beefed up and we still need a 5th starter.  Ryan Dempster would be good for a couple of years.

I doubt they stand pat, though.  It looks to me like they'd like an upgrade in the outfield defense from Morse to a legit defender.

Is he though? Do you really think he's going to repeat what he did this season? He's more likely to have a 25 homer/85 RBI season. He's going to regress to the mean at least.

In two years, we'll have Moore ready for big league pitching (if not next year), Rendon looking for a spot on the diamond to play everyday, and Brian Goodwin ready for the outfield. Two years is more than good enough. If he wants more than that, he can look elsewhere. Now is not the time to be signing more money away to guys who will be on the downward slide of their careers *coughcoughWerthcough*

Yeah, I do, actually.   He'd been trending towards what he put up last year the past couple of years before he got hurt, iirc.  And even if he does regress to 25/85 a bit, I'll take that in a heart beat.  Keep the top of the lineup in front of him healthier than last year and he'll be just fine

what if he's demanding 4?  I do think it's worth overpaying to keep LaRoche though.

some MLBTR notes:

Quote
Negotiations between the Nationals and Adam LaRoche are going slowly, a source tells MLB.com's Bill Ladson. The source also says LaRoche's top priority is to return to the Nationals, but the free agent first baseman is thinking about his two children, which is why he wants a three-year deal and has talked with several teams.
A five-year, $75MM contract might be accurate for B.J. Upton but expect Michael Bourn to seek more, tweets Dave O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Despite the declining influence of home runs to change a game, as typified by the Giants winning the World Series after slugging the fewest home runs in baseball, the Phillies still need a power surge in 2013, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer's Bob Brookover.

Don't overpay for Bourn, but man if LaRoche only wants 3 years than that is a no-brainer.  3/$36.

He's been a ~2.5 WAR player 3 out of the last 6 seasons. He'll put up a .260/.335/.470 slash with 24-26 HRs and 85-90 RBIs. And he will regress from there.

We have a lot of first base options at this point. We don't need LaRoche
