Bayern Munich is slapping their tackle across Barca's face again and again.  Amazing.

So much for the Spanish final.

I'd like to see Dortmund win big tomorrow.  Unlikely, but I had pretty much written off Munich today so who knows.

Those german stadiums look fun. Pretty similar to what the dcu groups are going for with the banners, chanting, and drums. Also looks pretty angry. Lots of shirtless dudes and shaved heads, which might look harmless in other countries

BVB need to win this. They're going to lose pretty much their whole starting lineup this summer.

We're going to be in a jungle lodge in Costa Rica for the final (no TV)...this will certainly require a reccie of bars in the surrounding countryside

Central valley this time.  Actually not far from San Jose, though it feels like it's on a different planet.  We've been to CR 4 or 5 times, and you just can't beat the weather up there (no need for air con at night, unlike the Pacific and Caribbean coasts, which are sweltering).

They love their futbol down there.  Some solid clubs (e.g. Alajuelense and Saprissa) that can compete against the big boys internationally, and the national team is a pretty regular participant in the WC finals.

Since we're in our travelogue mode  ...   :)     Have you ever been to Belize?    If so, if you had to make one trip  ...   would it be CR or Belize?    Thinking about heading south in the fall/winter.

Never have, and it's totally on my bucket list.  My folks went diving there back when it was still British Honduras, and it was quite rustic at the time...probably a bit more in the way of amenities nowadays.

Costa Rica's uniqueness arises from the crazy topography (essentially the entire American landmass compressed into 100 miles, where you can go from coast to coast over high mountains in a single day).  Belize is pretty much all jungle from what I understand.  But amazing coral reefs from the sounds of it, if one is into diving or snorkeling.

I feel old.   I remember British Honduras  ...  Sun never sets and all that.    Have a few friends who went to Belize and loved it.   However, I like the topography aspect you mention with CR.   I like changes of scenery/wildlife/weather/etc.

Can't believe Wigan's going to be relegated. They have a great manager and their style of play is fantastic.

They deserved to win that game.

Watched Chelsea beat AV this morning.    The old man scores again and again.

Someone was calling them "the escape artists of the EPL" for barely skirting relegation year after year from the top league.

[edit: at least they get to take a nice piece of silverware down with them]

With the FA Cup, do they get into Europe next year?  The competition below the Champs league? How much money is in that?  does that keep them from breaking up the team for $$$ (pounds, or euros or wtf)?

Yeah, they get a Europa League spot. The amount of money they get depends on how far they go in the tournament.

From Wikipedia:

    First qualifying round: €100,000
    Second qualifying round: €100,000
    Third qualifying round: €100,000
    Play-off round: €100,000
Base fee for group stage: €1,300,000
    Group match victory: €200,000
    Group match draw: €100,000
    Group winners: €400,000
    Group runners-up: €200,000
    Round of 32: €200,000
    Round of 16: €350,000
    Quarter-finals: €450,000
    Semi-finals: €1,000,000
    Losing finalist: €2,500,000
    Winners: €5,000,000

They only have one or two good players, so chances are they will have a similar team next season, regardless. They do still have a chance to avoid relegation, though.

I spent some time in Arenal and got to see an absolutely great volcano eruption.  The Rio Celeste was perhaps the single most amazing thing I've seen in my life to date, which says something.  CR is a must do for people who like to experience new things.

It was a penalty, but I'm not surprised he was given the yellow considering how often he dives. Still, terrible call.
