Maybe it's just me, but I think Brand-X on FX is f'ing hilarious. It started out bland, ridiculous even with some 'political analyst' with a stick up his arse as Russell's sidekick. How they foresaw that dude playing off Russell Brand... And the 30 minute format didn't work, nor even the taped aspect of the show.
Now? Now an hour long, freaking live, Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols as his sidekick and instrumentalist? Beyond awesome. Some crazy interviews with oft times questionable guests (The Westboro Baptist bunch among others) and the 'random homeless guy in a trailer' aspect really, really, really didn't/doesn't work. Last night though? It reairs tomorrow night sometime after midnight on FX, record it.
The interview with Zach Braff was just damned priceless. Brand is one of those comedians, if a guy plays along and takes his crap it's all good. When they don't, when they make evident their aversion, he pounces. The last three minutes was the funniest bit I've seen on an interview/talk show since ye olde The New Tom Green Show got ****canned by MTV, the nightly hour long short lived version, when some rocker took a chainsaw to his desk and... well, chainsawed it - much to Green's dismay.
Russell Brand trying to get a Kickstarter campaign to make a gay pictureso with Zach Braff was cute. Braff becoming extraordinarily disturbed as Brand pounces on him and starts saying he was going to rape him? Braff's reaction, 'Help me!' to the camera... It's worth a watch. I'm sure someone posted it on YouTube by now if nothing else. It drives me nuts that stuff like this is ignored, unwatched and inevitably canceled while Leno, Fallon (Maybe some bits are cute, I can't get past him cracking himself up constantly at absolutely unfunny junk.) Carson Daly, Conan on TBS (Sorry, loved him on Late Night, this sucks.) plethora of daytime talkers, hell, some Jersey Shore reject has a new talker coming up - all that stuff lives on forever.
