Negro Modelo is pretty decent.

Agreed. I was referring solely to Corona because that's the one OC mentioned.

Funny thing is, whenever I've been in Mexico Corona hasn't even been offered as a selection.

"Negra" Modelo, BTW. I wonder what kind of crap-storm would be stirred up if a label with the word "Negro" were available in this country!!!!

...or how about this toothpaste, formerly sold in parts of Asia (it's now called 'Darlie' or 'Darly'): http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?_adv_prop=image&fr=yfp-t-701&va=darky+toothpaste

I've used 'Darky' toothpaste...and smoked 'Long Life' cigarettes (I don't do that anymore though).  There was also a Thai whiskey called "Red Cock" that featured ads with a topless Thai woman dressed as a squaw with the caption in Thai and English "Happiness is a Red Cock"

Negra Modelo is the crap.

I think our beer tasting had the Hazelnut Brown as well. I liked it, a lot actually, but 512 Pecan is a deep black color, but not thick or creamy - very drinkable, a fuller and more unified group of tastes, maybe less nutty actually but then I don't actually like to eat pecans so I couldn't tell you how pecan-y it is. I don't think they bottle any of it, only served on tap, which breaks my heart because it's one of the five beers I'd take to the desert island.

Looks tasty.  Actually, they all do.  I'll have to look for 512 varieties next time I hit up Total Wine.

If you find it, tell me and I will run not walk. I've never seen anything from 512 in bottles. You might have to come to ATX/DFW to grab it. We're such lucky bastards (in some ways).

Oh freak, I thought you just meant the Pecan variety.

I want that Porter...and I want it NOW.

Update: Appears to be sold in bottles - http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/17863/54905

Had a couple of Dogfish head drafts tonight - Punkin' ale, and nages brew.  The nages brew was very good but nothing has yet to beat out Palo Santo Marron on my DFH list.  Though the Raison d'etre is not so bad either.

Good taste, Turtle.  I think PSM and Raison are my two favorite DFH as well.  I'd be remiss not to mention the India Brown Ale though.

India Brown Ale.  Such a dull name, but such a fine beer.  And has the added advantage of being regularly available at the Red Porch bar.   :woop:

...very true (especially as regards Corona, the world's most overrated beer).
Overrated? Wouldn't someone have to like it or say that it is good for it to be overrated? Sure, people drink it, maybe even a lot, but I wouldn't say that it is a well regarded beer...

Not highly regarded by beer connoisseurs, true...but go to a supermarket (notably the two I normally patronise, the H-T in Pentagon Row and the Giant in Penrose Square) and, apart from the mass-market domestic lagers, Corona and Corona Light have more shelf space than any other brand. If it doesn't get a thumbs-up from knowledgeable beer drinkers, it does, sadly, win the battle of the marketplace.

[Corona Light...now that is something I've never gotten up the nerve to try, and I just can't get my mind round it...I mean regular Corona has no flavour...is it possible for a beer to have negative flavour?]

I dunno.  Rolling Rock always seemed to be competitive in the space.

At least pisswater beer with lemon has beaten out wine coolers as the gateway drink for adolescents.

I've gotten this far in life without ever having a wine cooler or really knowing what it is. I count myself lucky.

I thought that was what Four Loko was for?

With regards to beer displays and "shelf space", there is a lot more to it than most people realize. Have any of you seen the documentary "Beer Wars"? It's very informative and available on Netflix Streaming. Definately worth watching if you haven't seen it yet and consider yourself a beer geek.

There is some exaggeration in that movie about the inability of local beer to get on shelves- Port City was on most local grocery store shelves within a few months of opening. I've never had problems getting the other 'small brewery's' stuff that were featured (dog fish head and stone)
