Maya pitching in MLB again == :hang:

Why do think the Maya Calendar ends in 2012?

Halfsmokes - to get to Maya or Stammen, it would take 3 pitchers down for some reason: 7-3=4 for 5 rotation slots.  I agree that we can expect to have Strasburg hitting an innings cap some time in the last 40 games.  Wang will pitch until his arm falls off. It may, but if he can go 200 innings, they will trot him out.  He is a risk of injury, but there will be no voluntary innings limit on him. The team I believe has said so.  JZ does not have a significant limit.   180 - 195 innings is a full season for most pitchers.  Lannan and Gio both go full seasons.  So, it is conceivable that we only use 6 pitchers, but assuming one injury, 7 gets you by.  If 3 are down in the first half of the year, we are in trouble, but by the second half of the year, either a minor leaguer develops, move for one if we are in contention, or find a replacement level starter if we are unwilling to take our Maya / Stammen lumps.

If we were to bring in one more veteran, I'd like it to be a Rich Harden type.  Someone who is recovering from injuries but was healthy the last half of the year.  Bring him along a bit slow in the spring, and have him ready for a call up when we need it.  Heck, if he's good, he might beat out one of our 4/5/6 guys from the get go. Nice problem.

They should check into Brandon Webb.

I think Webb is fixated on Texas, but he's that kind of guy, too.  IIRC, he's not expected to pitch this year.

His agent says he's throwing free and easy. Which I take to mean he's at least 6 months away.

I think CMW's agent was saying that 2 or 3 years ago.

Yep, which is why you go and take a look. After CMW, they should have an idea of a realistic time table.

If we're really in it, not just might make the wild card, but in a division race with the wild card as a real possibility, I'd just keep on throwing Strass out there- I'd trade legitimate shot at a title for the chance he blows out his arm and we loose him for the last three years

Absolutely the worst post of the decade. I don't think I have ever criticized someone for their opinion (certainally disagreed) as this immediate gratification of risking Stras is beyond belief. Even if he was in the last year of our control why risk someones career and livlihood.

It worked for the Cubs.

Lol, Boras would personally assassinate Rizzo/Johnson if we tried that.

Yeah, but Riggleman is no longer the manager.

You know things have changed for the better when people are arguing over the depth of replacement rotation pitchers rather than the state of the actual rotation itself.

They showed Gio in a Caps shirt on the jumbotron during one of the breaks in last night's game (win over the Bruins)...not sure where he was sitting, but he was in the house.

Nationals PR @NationalsPR
Gio Gonzalez (@giogonzalez47) is 31-2 w/ a 2.37 ERA in 41 starts when receiving more than 2 runs of offensive support. #Nationals

Wow.  That is impressive.  Let's hope our anemic offense is better this year.

Now we just need to score 2 runs. It's sad that it's a legitimate fear of mine that we can't do it.

It's also completely inaccurate.

Gio will also be on Lavar and Dukes at 5:30pm. Lavar is not on the air. They have Danny Rouhier  on right now.
